First, LDK is already a manufacturer and they have the abilty to recycle old polysilicon into usable wafers. Second, They are located next to one of the largest silicon raw material deposits in the world and there manufacturing process is technology advanced to make them cheaper than any others. China is building lots of coal fired generation plants so coal mining shares are also doing very well. Ref YZC. I think the big thing for me is to buy substantial companies and not startups.
