They generally have dividend policies that set a certain level of payout of earnings, they don&#039;t have the same focus as US companies on keeping a steady and growing payout regardless of earnings volatility (I&#039;ve found this to be the case in most foreign companies, the dividend is &quot;you share of the earnings&quot;, whatever those earnings were, it&#039;s not a sacrosanct number that the company kills itself to avoid cutting).  Most Brazilian companies pay out annual dividends in two unequal payments.</description>

		<description>CPL is a very volitile stock for a utility.  It paid a nice dividend in Aug of 07 and also in March of 07, but seems to be rather unpredictable as to when the divi is paid.</description>
