New Polls about Gumshoe Email Delivery

Hi folks, I’m trying to figure out how to get a more reliable email service up and running to make sure you can all get your daily alerts at a reasonable time — and in so doing, I may add some additional email-only services to the basic writeups I provide here on the website (maybe an email-only newsletter).

To help me plan, I’d appreciate it if you could answer these poll questions about your email preferences.

Thanks for your help, and thanks for reading!

[poll=2]

[poll=3]

(and of course, if you’ve got something to share that doesn’t fit neatly into those voting parameters, feel free to comment below — thanks!)

    5. Newsletter?! Isn’t the poor Gumshoe already burdened enough? What is the point of the newsletter–a distillation or summary of the alerts, or will the content be new?

    6. PS. Please do your own research beforehand of course but I have done mine and fully expect Apple to make a good announcement before the Bejing Olympics but please……proceed with the usual caution when receiving any tip !

    7. Like Charles, I often have bad luck with hot tips, though I enjoy doing my own sleuthing from the hyped teasers. I just signed up for your newsletter and look forward to seeing more of your work. What makes it all so interesting is you can lose 9 out of 10 times, but if your tenth hit is a big one, you still come out way ahead.

    8. You are already doing a fine job. I receive my emails in a timely manner so nothing needs changing on that front. You are providing an excellent service, cutting through the hype of the expensive newsletters. I used to think I was nuts trying to crack these teasers. One time I spent 6 hours cracking Nunnally’s Dejour (bought 290,000 acres in the Piceance area for oil). But since encountering your service we spread the “cracking” load amongst many. AND we can track the success rates of the newsletter writers and their recommendations. This service is excellent and proves the benefits of community vs individual… Thank You

    9. I find your sleuthing to be an enjoyable read. It is quite apparent you know a lot about that which you sleuth. Keep it coming. Find a way to target your monthly faithful donors, if only so they feel recognized.

    10. Thanks Richard, that’s part of my goal as I move on to the next level to expand what I’m doing a little bit.

      And David, that’s still up in the air. Probably an email service would just be a way for me to share things that aren’t specifically about one teaser or newsletter. Maybe something a little more sophisticated than that, perhaps a bonus for the paid subscribers of a recommended portfolio or more opinion on the best stocks I read about — I try to be evenhanded about most recommendations, since I don’t spend a lot of time reviewing their financials each day and I think it’s important for investors to do their own research, but I could perhaps focus on some of the strongest ideas and do some more in-depth analysis.

      We’ll see. Thanks so much for responding to the poll, everyone. And have a great weekend, whether it’s a holiday for you or not.

    12. Great job, keep up the good work. I would not appreciate any newsletter that contains cookies or pop-ups for your paid advertisers. I already get enough spam from various investor services, and I don’t love it quite as much as you do! I commend you on your ability to make this into a viable business! You’re smart.

    15. You provide a great service, sorry I have not been able to contribute monetarily yet.

      Do the statistics show that the vast majority of ‘teasers’ turn out to be, esentially, worthless?

      Thanks for all,

    19. For several years while studying how to approach the securities market investment game I kept almost all the printed teaser mailings (hated the ones that came with the paid newsletters). After stumbling onto your sleuting site I posted what I had been keeping, made a comparison to your spread sheet, and off loaded alot of paper to the recylers. Thanks.

    26. As a subcriber, I look forward to the writeup as much as the revelation of the next great hope. I once sluethed out ITKG and made some money. Overconfident, I then sleuthed out NEOM and BBP and lost my shirt. Then I signed up. Happy Easter and good fortune to all.

    27. I have touted your site to several coworkers. I enjoy your wit even though I haven’t used your info for stock purchases yet. Why don’t you just blast e-mails to opt-ins every five minutes or so like the ones I get from Nigeria wanting to give me $5 mil or the incessant male enhancement ads.

    31. I concur with Richard. If your intent is for a seperate newsletter you should limit it to the paid members. I get the impression that sleuthing out these teasers is a labor of love for you. I also realize the time involved on your part and what you are asking for in the way of donations is small change, and I hope all your readers realize that.
      You do a great job.
      Have a great weekend.

    32. GUMSHOE! AT LEAST YOU DON’T GET NEGATIVE COMMENTS! I THINK THE PEOPLE KNOW QUALITY IN YOUR SERVICE. I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION I WISH YOU WOULD ANSWER! HOW MANY DEATH THREATS HAVE YOU GOT FROM THE TEASER GROUPS? KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! WITHOUT YOU WE WOULD BE SITTING ON LOTS OF WORTHLESS MAGAZINES, OR HOMELESS FROM PUMP AND DUMP STOCKS! I HOPE TO GET TO WORK SOON, I WILL DONATE THEN.STILL RECOVERING FROM REAREND HIT NOV.30TH, AND HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO WORK, SO NO MONEY. WILL REMEMBER YOU WHEN WORK STARTS UP! HAVE A HAPPY EASTER TO GUMSHOE, AND READERS!

    33. I have enjoyed this “stock gumshoe” site. I have been amazed as to the sleuthing abilities of most of the readership, and of course the “stock gumshoe himself”, thank you. Your findings have been very educational and interesting. I try to pass on this site information on to others who are searching for the same kind of information as we are.
      I am fairly new to this site so I am unsure where I need to go to share a “teaser question” or a question about a product I heard advertised that I think your general readership may find of interest.

      Are you planning on producing a newsletter? Please keep me advised. I would be willing to subscribe.

      Thank You, sincerely BILL MOSS.

    36. Here’s an idea that won’t take too much time from your schedule, Travis: send us irregulars (and other donors to your service) regular email updates on your own personal portfolio — just a list is OK since we know you’ve done your homework. You’ve proved it to us with your helpful insight. I know we can probably find it at your site, but it would be great to see when you make changes, etc. delivered to our inbox.
