Hi Travis,
Thanks for your input on the banking situation. I think you very well could be right, but I can't help to think that at least one or two more of the big boys will come tumbling down. Time will tell and the Fed will continue with smoke and mirrors. Bail out is a good term...especially when planes are on their way down.

Travis...if JPM, BAC etc...stated herein...are the foundation of what is to follow...by definition they are the "last guys standing"...and as such, eventhough it is the "banking sector"...some of these mentioned seem timely...as a BUY (??)

Like some other regular Gumshoe readers have, bought LYSCF way back when it was teased by Sonoski just over 2 years ago. Over time I locked some of my profit, still holding some(not much. For add'tnal comments here, LYSCF also bought some rare earth properties in Asia, believe in Indonesia. Always follow Gumshoe, and respect his insight on most things teased.
Gumshoe, you are godsend in this predating marketplace. You are the Moses of this investing universe!

Oh, and just to close the circle: Buying this morning wouldn't have been any more useful than buying this afternoon, or, probably, than buying some other time. It closed yesterday in Australia at about 57 cents, and closed on the pink sheets today at 58 cents, and as Australia opens tonight (for me, this morning for them), the price is virtually unchanged. Rare earths aren't exactly CNBC headlines at the moment, and Lynas' quarter ends tomorrow so we wont' be hearing any big results for at least a couple weeks.

Thanks alida -- as you might suspect, a big part of the reason I haven't commented much on that is that I don't have anything particularly useful or intelligent to say.

Being part of a population that lives beyond its means and depends on borrowing from my grandchildren, who hopefully won't be born for decades yet, makes me feel very guilty, and political twiddling while solvable problems proliferate is extremely frustrating.

But there's no way on God's green earth I'd buy a bankrupt or near bankrupt or high risk bank or crazy arbitrage situation like WaMu or Fannie or Freddie or AIG, though I know it can sometimes be tempting.

Almost every single company in the market is on sale these days, many of them at almost unbelievable prices ... if you think that the world will return to some sense of normalcy within a reasonable timeframe, now's probably the time to buy the really good high profit, low debt companies, not the really bad and risky ones.

Hmm, OK, that sounded more like a lecture than intended. When everything's on sale, but what you always wanted but couldn't justify paying retail for.
