Ha! Wouldn't keep it at my house, and it's a very small amount, but I do appreciate your "interest". I don't think we'll be shaving pieces off our gold coins to pay for grapefruits anytime soon, and I don't really think of this as a "disaster" cache, but I find it oddly comforting to have a little bit of gold readily available.

So you have physical gold?

By the way, what is your address?

;)

To me, I'm not sure I want something of value like that laying around the house. And if you have to safely store it somewhere perhaps that becomes an unneeded hassle. And if economic
disaster strikes perhaps you can't get access to the storage site.

It all just seems like adding more
worries to one's life.

You may well be right in that buying GLD is more efficient -- but you're discounting the paranoia factor, one motivation for buying gold is a worry that everything else will go to h**l in a handbasket and the "paper" versions and representations of gold will be less than promised. That's not to say the paranoia is wrong, just that it is one part of the rationale for owning physical gold where you can get at it -- and the level of paranoia in the marketplace seems to fluctuate wildly.

Plus, the coins are purty, and for collectors there's always the hope of "better than gold" returns as Roseman is teasing here.

I hold both physical gold and stocks in some gold miners and royalty owners -- altogether that's probably between 10-20% of my portfolio, but it provides some small comfort when I get worried about the dollar or inflation.
