IVN has been acting very poorly lately compared with GDX and the other miners.

I purchased it on 10/5/09 at $12.99 based on the analysis above, and just sold it at a loss for $12.

Climate change: As a wildlife biologist with a PhD from McGill University, I can tell you that climate change is impacting wildlife. For instance, cold-blooded turtles used to nest the last two weeks of June, they now nest as early as the last week of May, but typically the first two weeks of June. So, lets say on average two weeks earlier. Turtles are "cold-blooded", which is non-technical language to explain that their physiology is tied to environmental temperature. The real question here is whether this change in nesting = warmer springs is tied to phenology (cyclic patterns over long periods), something that is natural...or a result of man-made activities. Admittedly, that question is well beyond my realm of expertise. However, no one can deny the amount of ice that is melting at both poles right now (as another example of warming). You can choose to interpret such facts based on current scientific theory or political bla bla.
Still, for investing purposes...parts of the planet are warming, and this will have consequences. Here in SW US, things will likely get hotter and dryer; in the NE US and Canada wetter and cooler based on current warming trends. Invest with that knowledge; it doesn't matter what is causing it...the animals know it is happening. Personally, not based on anything other than common sense, I ask you this: Do you really believe human population increase, habitat destruction such as clear cut logging, vehicular emissions, etc are having no (0%) of an impact on our planet? Here's another fact: "Of the estimated 170 million ha of temperate forest present in 1620, only 10 (ten) million ha remained by the 1980s as a result of deforestation". Thus a 94% decrease in temperate North American forests in 360 yrs. There is no question we have an impact, but we don't notice because of the "shifting baseline" effect. What you grew up with is perceived as natural, even though it was long ago seriously degraded. Do your own research and invest accordingly.

I consider the destruction of the planet to be a bit more than a "hot button." If you don't, you really need to take a closer look at your priorities. If Leeb can't at least have the balls to admit the truth, I can't respect his opinions. Grow a backbone, Greg: there is nothing dweeb-like about standing up for the truth.

Also, I agree that his line, "real or not" could have been about avoiding the topic, but I interpret it differently. However, regardless of how you read that line, all Leeb does in the end is perpetuate the myth that there is still a debate, and that is a disservice to everybody.

"Global warming—real or not—"

The guy was trying to steer clear of arguments over the reality of climate change. He wasn't denying it or endorsing it; he was simply saying that whatever your stance, (the debate over) "global warming" is a factor that has to be taken notice of by investors.

The result? The predictable bunch of dweebs slagging each other off because someone hit their favourite "hot button". How can anyone take you guys seriously when you can't discuss anything without jumping on your soap box?

I've clearly been blown out of the water by Diddleysquatter's highly developed arguments. No point in arguing any further, I am sure to get the devastating "lalala, I can't hear you" argument next.

Kudos, sir, you win this round!
