First, let me thank you for the clarity and lightness you bring to the anxious world of investing.
Yours is the first $-blog that I’ve ever ENJOYED reading (and I’ve been reading them for years).

Secondly; are you familiar with Jazz Air Income Fund (JAZ.UN-T)? They’re paying 14.4% now. They were challenged by the Air Canada bankruptcy scare which largely seems to have passed, and should be hauling more passengers as a result of the Winter Olympics. What I also appreciate about all these Canadian high yielders is the likelihood of the Canadian $ strengthening v. the US$ in the future. I own a lot of these and have done for a while.

Thanks for the tip on New Flyer. Their backlog is quite impressive.
Take it easy, but take it.

They certainly do have an attractive dividend yield, however as you commented this all seems to be largely due to the “hybrid” bond-stock concept being used here. At the end of the day on their income statement they are still showing a loss of some $9.8M down from $17.0M in the prior quarter. From what I’m seeing is although they have a nice PE, they don’t actually have any earnings to speak of….more that you are just getting you interest on a bond.

A side note, I actually live in Winnipeg, and see their buses daily (unsurprisingly everyone one of the buses in my fair city is made by them). From where I sit, they seem to be chugging along, though I think alot of that has to do with considerable help from various levels of Government as they are a good sized employer in the area.

If somebody can help my understand this “hybrid-bond-stock” concept I’d appreciate it…as right now it just seems you are getting bond interest from a company which is losing money….if they turn things around great…if not….could get ugly.

I had bought FCN after learning about it here, and did so just before the drop too. I had tapped three other sources before doing so, and that company looks very solid in spite of what happened. It is now near an annual low too. It seems like the selling was overdone, and I am considering grabbing more while that stock is out of favor.

Gumshoes Tease of about one year ago EXS ( Canada) EXSFF (Pink sheets) is supposed to come out with positive news and their core drilling results on Wednesday, March 3.
Greg McCoach teased this stock about one year ago at $.45 and it is $1.02 now.

Gold Resources Corporation (GORO) has fired up their brand new mill in Oaxaca, Mexico.
They project producing 70,000 ounces of Gold this year and 200,000 ounces by 2012.
Their cost of Goid production will be paid for by the copper and silver by product, they think.
If things go the way they project, stock will be up 600% from it present price of $10.60. Full details are spelled out on their web site: http://www.goldresourcecorp.com

EXSFF is up 44% since my post last weekend. But GORO dropped below 10 this morning before recovering to 10.20.
