written by reader Pink Sheet Trading

By Anonymous Questions, October 10, 2012

I have a problem. So much of what sounds interesting is either Canadian or pink sheet stocks. TradeKing says that with them, I can’t trade any stocks that aren’t on American exchanges, and no pink sheets that are 5-letters ending in an ”F”, which seems to be all of them. I’m with them because I do a lot of covered calls, and they seem to have the best trading fees. I’ve been wanting Sandstorm Metals & Energy for some time. Any suggestions?

Pink sheets trading and foreign trading are areas in which there are substantial differences between brokers, both in the level of access and trading they’ll give you and in the commissions they’ll charge.

I’ve never used TradeKing, but I have found both Ameritrade and Fidelity to be excellent in trading pink sheets stocks, foreign or not. Whenever possible I try to trade foreign stocks directly on foreign exchanges through Interactive Brokers, which is also the lowest cost broker I’ve used (though also the most complex system, and it quickly loses the low cost title if you don’t trade at least a couple times a month or you add on a lot of their data services)

I have the same problem with an additional twist; I am not a US citizen.

Does anyone know of an American broker that does both:
1) Allows trade on Foreign Ordinaries (Stocks ending on “F” on PinkSheets
2) Allows international customers to open an account?

I opened with Zecco just to find out they do not accept trading of Foreign Ordinaries….

Thanks in advance,

Mads Jensen

I use scottrade, very easy to use format and can buy pink sheets, $7 a trade for most trades but pink sheets will be a little bit more commission. Etrade is another option where you can use their global trading account that allows you to exchange American dollars into Canadian dollars and then buy directly on the Toronto exchange. This is $20 a trade though. Good luck.
