2 questions if I may.

1. Is the yield the same as the rate of dividend?

2. Where can I find free live, preferably no-delay stock prices? I’ve mainly been a forex trader hitherto and am used to free live prices!

Thanks a lot

  1. When investors talk about a stock’s yield, they’re usually referring to the expected annual dividend yield, the current annualized yield, or the trailing annual dividend yield (dividends can fluctuate, with most companies aiming to consistently raise their dividend and some companies having to cut dividends when cash runs short, so those numbers are not necessarily identical).

Most websites simply take the last quarterly dividend payment, multiply it by four, and call that the current annual dividend. If you divide that number by the current share price, you get the current yield.

Both Google Finance and Yahoo Finance now generally offer real time quotes for listed companies. The data may not be to-the-second as a day trader might want, but it is no longer saddled with a 15 minute delay like it used to be. I do not watch ticks by the minute or trade very actively, but when I do need real, live quotes I’m usually in the process of placing orders so I check those prices live through my broker.
