  1. Octagon has been pretty aggressively promoted by paid promoters. These are the folks who send out ads that look like newsletter recommendations but are actually, in the fint print, ads that the “newsletter” was paid thousands (or sometimes hundreds of thousands) of dollars to produce.

Some stock promotion comes from the companies themselves, or their close associates, as they try to get their stock up so they can sell more stock at a better price to raise money. And OCTX does appear to need cash. But perhaps more often, these are just the “pump” part of a “pump and dump” trading operation — these traders buy up a ton of shares cheap, pay to promote the stock and drive the shares up, then sell out before anyone realizes that the company isn’t nearly as impressive as the ads indicate.

I haven’t researched Octagon Resources in any meaningful way, to be sure, and they do have some exploration assets and are doing some exploration work — they don’t have any money or any near-term expectations for cash as far as I can tell in a quick look, but they may be slightly more real than the worst of the shell companies that get used in pump and dump campaigns. I didn’t see enough in a quick look at their finances to think it’s likely to really be worth the $150-200 market cap it currently carries, and I’d be surprised if they’re not out trying to raise more money sometime soon, but I certainly haven’t looked closely.

Thank you for the OCTX comment. Makes a lot of sense to me. Sharp as usual!
