If I can be of any help, please let me know. I’ve worked as a clinical lab director for many many years and I’m med savvy too. I have time to research or look up relevant information. I’m inactive trader with a strong interest in pharma and biotech.

Alan, is there anyway we can list all the stocks we want to monitor and do in depth analysis? Maybe not! It would be easy for everyone to track based on stocks!

BTW, there are already people there CONTRIBUTING. Please pull whatever weight you can. Doubtless KSS will comment…..but no-one should expect him to spend 25/8 carrying us all. You propose…..he will (probably) respond by giving your summaries the 0 or 3 Hail Mary’s.

Thanks Rick….but please dont address me….Im just the dimwit light relief. I couldnt tell an Asprin from a ….. (actually I dont take asprin or any drug other that alchohol, spliff and nicotine, so I cant give you a comparison.). Explore the ‘trails’ links on THE thread. Make your commet and expect shite……but even (perhaps especially) the crap comments lead to the good answers from which we ALL benefit. Hang in there….Einstein and Homer can all learn and gain.

How about creating a set of google docs, like a chart to list all the stocks under consideration with columns for buy@, sell@, market cap, upcoming dates that could affect share price, whatever – etc, and a link to a googledoc for each stock that gives a more detailed synopsis for the company?

Oh, as I pleaded on THE thread. Tell us someting about your background…. beyond an anonimous username ( def not name address details). Your skills /background can make all the difference. The foundation of your comment puts stuff into perspective and gives reason to trust what youve said….and allows others to debate on the same level. If you’re Obama shoe shine ….great, we’ll know that your comments on shoe polish have merit. No matter that youre no-one….. silly questions often elicit GREAT answers that we can all gain from. But certanly, if you have a special skill, we’ll later know who to call on to comment.

I am a toolmaker in the States. Young investor looking to do any leg work I can along the way. Started reading the previous thread about two weeks ago and have been so intrigued, I sometimes stare at my phone waiting to see the blue light blink to let me know I have a new thread post. Bought into benny at .93 because of it and feel I owe something back for the unbelievable free, exciting knowledge, and $ I have gained so far.

I’m mostly a lurker, just watching with intense interest all that transpires on THE thread, and now here I guess. I am a software engineer (28+ years and counting), working with and develping for, UNIX-like systems (I know nothing about Windows, and you can’t pay me enough to develop for it unless it can all be done in Java). Though I am a geek, my hobbies include brewing beer, wood working, home improvement, volleyball, running and working out. I am fairly hip with computer/gadget related technologies, but I know nothing about BioTech – I am trying to pick it up as I go along. I have been investing for many years, but more of the buy and hold for very long term. I am grateful to stockgumshoe and all those that have contributed on THE thread.

Maybe I have a question for you, it’s outside of the healthcare world… But since we can’t contact the people here privately and I couldn’t resist asking the question to someone who thouroughly knows UNIX, here I go: I’ve been watching Blackberry for sometime now, and its latest development with QNX seems promising. Do you think it’s overstated or is it serious asset the company has on its side? Will it generate cash?

Cheers

I don’t follow Blackberry too much, but I personally wouldn’t put money into them. Perhaps as a trade, but not long term. There are various options for embedded OSes. We use WindRiver’s VxWorks which is pretty much the standard, especially for military systems. Other competitors include QNX and LynyxWorks’ LynxOS. You are also seeing Linux appear more in embedded systems, though not as much in real-time safety-critical applications. Reportedly, Blackberry paid 200M US for QNX, and Blackberry’s market cap is roughly 5.6B, so the 200M company is a small fraction overall. Also, I’m sure some of the market that QNX addressed has either moved away from, or gone with another competitor, since QNX’s future was unknown after Blackberry bought it.

For in-car entertainment, this is something that isn’t safety-critical – it’s not controlling your anti-lock breaks for instance. There are several alternatives to base an in-car entertainment, GPS guided mapping, etc, around. Certainly VxWorks and LynxOS would be a possibility, though free open-source solutions would work as well. Linux could probably be used, though the GPL licensing is nefarious to someone not wanting to release their source code. The BSD licensing from FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD is much more business friendly. All these are free to use, and in say Ford’s case, it’s not like they are going to deliver their embedded software to another company, so if it is under a GPL license and kept in-house, there should be no problem with the GPL license.

I think the real threat to any of these is Apple’s iOS and Google’s new effort for an in-car OS. I’m sure Google’s been working with Android for quite a while in this regard – they have cars that drive themselves! And ask yourself – what do you want your in-car entertainment/mapping/etc thingy to do? You want it to work well with your smart phone/device. Car manufacturers know this. I’m very surprised Ford hasn’t moved away from Microsoft’s solution before now. I think Apple has been slow to move to a solution for this need, and I’m not quite sure what their current deals with BMW and others really means. Are they licensing iOS, or is Apple just providing a protocol for interfacing with their phones’ capabilities and applications? It’s probably the latter, so the car manufacturer would still need an OS to base their system around.

Anyway, I could be wrong, but I don’t feel QNX driving the needle for Blackberry very much. I think the market is putting way more value in Blackberry’s messaging service, especially after Facebook bought What’sApp. And I don’t really get that deal. Reportedly, they paid 3 times Blackberry’s market cap for What’sApp.

Please, someone tell me if this is not appropriate for this list.

Tho not biotec I feel thinking approach benefits/applies. As to operating systems I think proprietary systems will fade Just as bad money drives out good money. FREE is more popular than fancy. Even mighty M.S. has long used BSD in opsys

Hi all,
Thanks for the thread. I’m a Biology major, but new to investing and investigating companies, so not sure how much help I can be here. I am willing to help out where I can though.
Anyone have thoughts on IMUC?

2nd year med student at UM. Have done research in ortho/optho but i am interested in specializing in GI. Have been investing in biotechs for 6.5 years (yes, I started right before the market went into the shitter and have learned some things from getting hit hard and have now built up a solid portfolio that has netted 75% per year since then). Love the fact that this thread has brought together some great minds and am grateful for the perspective others bring!

Looks like a great product, but the market cap is already almost $1B. What is the size of the market?

Will someone pleeeeeease give us a list of this weeks runners and riders. Once thats constructed, we can all tear it apart and provide a ‘best’ list to KSS so that he can do the science for us.

Elliot Sedlecky…..As a long term holder in IMUC and NWBO, I got hit hard on the milepost news that absolutely killed IMUC and pulled NWBO down with it in Dec. 13. Both companies are pursuing very similar treatment strategies for cancer brain tumor remission. NWBO is much further along with trials and should be close to reaching the time for an announcement of the first milepost results in the UK and another in Germany on IIIA trials. That may be leaking out right now and driving NWBO from 3.25 in mid Dec 13 to the mid $7 today as most of the move is in the last 8 days. Whatever, good or bad news, IMUC should ride along in sympathy. I hold a MUCH smaller position in IMUC as I am of the opinion that a validation of the treatment will benefit NWBO and may have the reverse effect on IMUC since they are so far behind in trials (and cash) and good news may draw investment $$ from IMUC into NWBO….but I am frequently wrong in anticipating what investors and traders will do. But I am still holding my IMUC for now. Dr. KSS has given comments on NWBO in earlier posts that you will find interesting.

Thanks, Walter. Unfortunately, my pick among the two was IMUC. I only have a small speculative position, though, and still believe in the technology and that the statistical benefit may improve over time. Best wishes to you with NWBO. Hoping any positives will also benefit IMUC, but like you said – it is hard to predict how investors will react.
