written by reader Investing in reward points

By sgwillb, October 19, 2014

Hi,
Received a teaser this morning about a company that is mining reward points similar to Bitcom. States Wall Street is just now beginning to invest heavily. Here is the link.

I think the company that owns points.com is Points International which is traded in Toronto.
Symbol pts.to
but… I don’t know what you need to do to convert points into cash . Anybody knows what the business opportunity is in all of this?

I to got a link sent to my email about this opportunity and it was linked through something call “RED BULLETIN”. There is some info about this becoming something like a bitcoin thing but based on reward points. Any info would be wonderful to see what they might be getting at.

All the “Cheat code is is the ticket symbol PCOM. I called and ask “it says in the video that you would show me how to “mine ” 540,600 Best buy point with out ever stepping in the store or having a card. It is very misleading !

Look like we’re all getting the same info from the same place. Just be wary guys, since there’s little to no info outside of this Wall Street daily red bulletin Id choose very carefully on how to proceed. I got the same info you did this morning.

From the sales pitch:
“The Cheat Code is only four letters long, but it gives you the opportunity to “cash-in” on all of these reward programs to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.”

A four letter long cheat code is another way of saying “stock symbol.” I have no clue what company they could be pitching (a little help oh wise Stock Gumshoe?) but I wouldn’t start thinking about retiring on a private island just yet. I’ve seen too many offers that say “cheat code”, “magic pin”, “secret sequence”, etc. which all just boils down to either an option chain or stock ticker symbol. The question now becomes, do I spend $10 to entertain my curiosity or do I buy 10 lottery tickets? Either way, it’s probably throwing money away.

THEY ARE PUSHING “SHARES” IN PCOM.
Now you can go onto Points’ exchange board and find someone who is willing to trade their airline miles for, say, your Discover card rewards points. Just like that, you’re looking at a free trip to the Magic Kingdom! And Points International collects a small fee in the process.
You can even purchase additional points to “top off” your account or give as a gift to friends and family members.
Very soon, every rewards point ever entered will likely go through Points International’s “mining” system.
So by purchasing PCOM ~SHARES~, you are essentially setting yourself up to CASH IN on every rewards transaction consumers will make in the future.

Not exactly a banner year for PCOM. Down nearly 50%. I think the comparison to bitcoin in the sales pitch was closer to the truth than they intended as bitcoin is also hovering around around a 50% loss for the year. I’ve tried to catch enough falling knives stock trading. I have no more blood to squeeze.
But on the other hand, I may setup a points.com account — looks interesting.

That is 100% correct and exactly what the Red Bulletin they send out states.
I don’t get it. Are we to believe that everyone is buying pcom and it is going to hit the roof???

I saw that same “mysterious” video ad prompting me to sign up for more info. SO irritating. Assuming Brent is right that it is PCOM . . . .First, I’m an investor and PCOM has just lost my trust by having to push their stock their video pumping service. Second, about points.com – I’ve amassed over 1 million miles on USAirways and another 1 million miles in Amex points. I have had an account for over 6 years on points.com and I have NEVER used it. Basically, their website is point-LESS. One man’s opinion of course. But one thing that video DOES have right is that it should be looked at as a currency. I look at my points as having a financial value and I don’t waste them, rather I use them wisely. Therefore, I cannot justify ever using points.com to transfer points because the fees are absolutely absurd. The only reason I could see using that service is for “orphaned” points in an airline you’ve decided to not fly anymore, and you’re willing to take 50 cents on the dollar value. Other than that, you would need to be a complete moron to use points.com I think.

PTS is setup mostly for travelers. Collect pts while your in different countries come home and swap (airline pts, hotel pts) for your most used pt system. Also, if a loved one passes its possible to have those pts swapped to your account granted both people have an account to begin with (last thing on my mind to do that, however, it can be done). I’m an investor since 2005 (or longer) and have bought and sold along the way. Way back mgnt did a horrible financing hiccup to start the company down a free fall road, however these past years have really seen growth and rev exceed expectations. The rise from $5 to $30 was way overdone and the 50% sell was called for IMO

I bought some shares ………… like ”buy and forget” as I think it may be the only thing going……. if something becomes of it. Didn’t President Obama have a PCOM card, something like that? I think more people will be getting involved in these points things to save a nickel.

I live on my credit card points lol. I fund ALL my Christmas gifts[gift cards] and use them to pay off my card. I forgot to mention I won a business as does my husband so ALL our business purchases go onto the card. The points really add up especially when I buy an airline ticket and get those points then get the miles points from the airline. Several free tickest over the years and several Christmas gifts . I don’t think I need a service to take 50% of them in fees. I’m quite capable of tracking the points myself on ONE card

Hi,
I too got the teaser from Wall Street Daily a couple of months back and was dumb enough to get in at about $14.
Shares are now at $9.40, after dropping 25% just the last three days.
Anybody cares to explain what on earth is happaning to PCOM?
6 of 6 analysts rankes PCOM to “buy” or “strong buy” with a target price of 20 to 40 …
… and I am loosing big! wtf?!?

I think they want you to hold on to it for longer than that.

I am seeing the same here, I bought 3 shares of PCOM about a week ago, mostly as buy it and forget it. I paid 11.29 and that’s pretty much where it’s staying. I’ll keep it for a month or so, if I see no benefits, then I’ll likely sell and make other purchases I have been eyeballing.

This is a ploy to get investors to buy something that is after all worthless and made up what made bitcoin successful was the tax implications in corporate to corporate transactions once it was made legal tender that stopped but it will fall b4 the dollar because there is a cap.

Remember the only thing ever truly for sale is an emotion and that’s what a showman thrives on.

The problem came with the word “cheat code .” It leads use to believe that there is a way to get something for nothing. Now curiosity come in and the price to find out what this misleading video offers ix a short dollar. They show in the video a folder that say “cheat code” on it , a book , and four cd’s ? They ask for your shipping address so I’m thing I was going to receive those item. When I called the employee said “o-no , every thing you paid for is on the site except for a book that they send you but is out of stock now. What’s that old saying ,”if it looks to good to be true it most likely is.”

Shows you weren’t listening. Obama used his rewards points to buy something – did not says he’s invested in this.
