RE $TRTC Not sure I can trust Derek Peterson after reading this S/A article. I realize it is a couple of years old but it suggests Mr. Peterson, based on his history, may not be looking after the best interests of the shareholders:
http://seekingalpha.com/article/2256753-terra-tech-a-natural-born-capital-killer
I did take a “test drive” with $TRTC last month, before I came across this and could not understand it’s extreme volatility. I sold my shares while still a few hundred dollars ahead. Today the stock is at $40, right where I sold it after it dropped in 3 or 4 days on no news from $60. Everything I read about the company seems positive, but I can’t trust Mr. Peterson after reading this. I wonder about other’s opinions. I have looked into ORGMF and it seems sound, but not sure about how much room it has to grow (pun intended). I think Canada makes sense for me to invest in, as a nation, they will have more conformity than the U.S. with the country moving toward legalization as a whole. Two Canadian companies that look very promising to me are Aphria $TSVX:APH and Mettrum $MT:TSVX. Both appear to be profitable and strong growers (can’t help myself.) The only question I have before investing with them (I plan to call about this) is to confirm they grow organically. Best, Don

I’ve seen this as a blossoming industry and have discussed the subject frequently with others. Now that we are getting legalization in most states, it is time to turn this into a business. The product has many amazing uses. We can pick out a variety of areas that feel comfortable to us. Let me know ideas.

So this is it? Out of ALL the Co’s in Colorado, Oregon – these are our choices? I’ve researched some hedge funds, group investments, et all….a guy would think there would be more. I have friends who run biz’s…the biggest issues are cash-flow – since no bank will legit take their receivables, it creates some headaches, as banks follow Fed guidelines.

Any extra info would be appreciated..

osgo Nobody knows how this will shake out. In Oregon many who thought they could join a bonanza by growing in back yard or small rural areas have run afoul of strict land use regulations that prohibit such use of most rural land,,, except for huge corporate farms that can afford to comply with numerous regulations of fencing, setback from public view, crop security, etc. etc. Of course Oregon has the most onerous land use regulation in the US as well as being more than 2/3 publicly owned. Washington has an instance of Feds seizing property as Federal law prohibits growing a controlled substance. I am not planning on investing in the field.

That story is accurate. I have heard that some dealers have used something like
PayPal to be able to accept credit cards in their real name and may use their personal accounts to bank,,,, if the bank does not know about their business. Forming a LLC is also iffy, perhaps not legal. Entrepreneurs face possibility of losing everything if the Feds act in that situation. My county of residence had the distinction of having the biggest grow operation bust in the US. It was cultivation by affiliates of a Mexican drug cartel on US Wilderness land. County option here has banned any retail or grow of recreational MJ.
Oregon is not the haven that Normal thought when they pushed decriminalization. As it has turned out, that raised new difficulties in medical MJ which was easy and unenforced until recent scrutiny of growers.

I do have buddies who are in this biz – on a personal level, *I wish* the medicine was an option for me after 6 surgeries in, w/another one scheduled. It’s been a long, l-o-n-g road.

Hah, I also have a fellow battle-buddy who runs security for a small chain of dispensaries…yeah, the irony of going to a foreign land, wiping out the natives, crops (and failed DEA initiatives!) and coming back to no real employment ops…”Welcome home GI, now, don’t bother us, we’re busy at The Mall!” ….then finding himself very well-armed protecting a medical dispensary/factory and 3 stores of all-cash receivables? They make movies of less?

As a dispensary owner, it can be exceptionally difficult trying to figure out what to do with $5000-$10K in receivables every day, per store!? Someone mentioned Paypal – no way…*no way* will PayPal not hiccup when they see that much account movement. Everything has to be *perfect* – meanwhile, one stoppage can takes 4-6 weeks while they confirm the transactions are legit. After that..what to do with sometimes $100K in cash after two weeks? Hello?

You can spread it out. You can use a few other services. But with that comes complications…and taxes? Records? The State wants its cut…they’ve hired new regulators…keeping everything above board is *hard* – especially with that much cash on hand? Where? Your house? With your children there? ***Hello, Target Acquired!**** The negative here is that by prohibiting banks doing biz with these types of ops., it can breed moral/lapse of reason shenanigans, since it’s so much easier to hide malfeasance when your receivables are spread amongst 5-7 different financial-intake svcs and you have $50K-$100K in cash sitting in the spare room? The whole house smells like money and the neighbors’ clapped-out Camaro is starting to look at you longingly?

And on the security/staff side? How do you welcome blazed customers when your security staff needs to be outfitted like when you took Fallujah? And are you sure there’s safety-locks in place to prevent your three exceptionally well-armed security guys from just walking off with $100K+ in cash? 3-Kings-Movie-style?

This and many more issues are solvable…but growing pains abound. But I like growing pains. When they get bigger and go away…the potential grows exponentially and we all might come away with something to tell our grandkid$ about…

Thanx..

TY, I too took a small’ish posi. earlier today in TRTC…heck, not much to lose, most everything to gain. It reminds me of investing in commodities via ‘supplier’ to commodities.

Ben, is there any way to DM (direct message) fellow participants? I was IRR here ’bout 5 years ago, then I was deployed for awhile and everything here got lost in the shuffle I guess.

Were u active/did you ever post on the Yahoo EDS board? ONTY-anything perhaps? I went by ‘edshacker’ back then…

On a personal note, I wish the legalization cascaded to workplaces. At this point, I’m thinking it may take 1/2 a generation to somehow, someway be OK to use the medicine in a SECRET/TS-cleared workplace – Uncle Sam is still pretty hostile the idea… the same Uncle who brought us Reefer Madness…

Ben do you have a hangup about writing HELL. It is found throughout the KJ Bible. It literally means the grave. Just curious. Jesus was in hell during a three day period.
Friday, Saturday and early Sunday.

I too am unsure of what calls for moderation as i often hit the bar when discussing gender. it seems to red flag any mention of the activity involving reproduction
involving said genders or the opposite of asexual means. When I think,,, I refer to a bull as male seks or sek shoo all. I think you can even type f*ck or f**k without being moderated.
Makes it difficult to talk about science when all life is either asexual or otherwise in nature.
Oh well, in Navy talk, skrew it or tattoo it.

Alan, the reason I asked is NOT to somehow prognosticate site-privacy-exposure by acquiring private contact info, to unmask the vague anonymity here…indeed, in real life, I’m an INFOSEC Pro who tries to catch evil HaX0R3… 🙂

Most other investment sites have a private way to contact folks…and the security/anon settings are user-level granular enough to block out the crazies.

Btw, if anyone needs a prof. opinion on privacy, INFOSEC, security or other tech, I can try to give you an answer from a 15+ yr. guy in the trenches…

Thanx!

I know we have >1000 readers but there are < 100 posters. In my book, they qualify as the real league of Gummy friends. To a great extent, this is exactly what KSS is....not just an author and bio genius, but a compassionate friend who we can call on when we have a personal med problem. He's been a HUGE help to me regarding a relative with early prostate cancer. KSS has been a rock for my family. It would be nice if someone kept a list of all the Gummies willing to offer their 'specialist skills'. In my experience, what goes around comes around. Thanks Osgo for your kind offer.AlanH

In plain Engrish – if someone here gets hacked, has an email stalker after their kids, has a firewall question, etc…I may be able to help. I feel pretty lucky I get paid for a hobby I’ve had since I was 12yrs old.. 🙂 And you’re right – paying skill-sets fwd and helping folks out has reaped amazing benefits… Thanx for the reminder.
