Another Lithium article from Matt Benhlsen at SA. I actualiy received two this morn, but I think the first was a repeat of four AU lithium miner that collapsed. This is about Altura Mining and due to go into production in Q3 2017. There are a few near term catalyst and are trading at AUD .15 or USD .135.I have no position.

Excellent article again Ben. A good comparison between Li-ion and Vanadium flow batteries. The only caveat I would add is yes Li-ion is prone to thermal run aways, but Vanadium flow batteries have a Sulphuric acid electrolyte. I was not aware that 3 phase electrical was part of the Gildemeister CellCube system. Three phase is usually is an additional charge for installation and I’m not sure about a monthly charge. Unforunately the only vanadium mine and license Gildemeister CellCube in the USA has ceased operation in March and the stock is now <.02 a share. According to the ceo they were to early to the market. I met a Solar Panel system repairman the other day. I asked him about a Solar system with storage battery and he got this deer in the headlight look. His answer was he had a buddy that had one and liked it.

was long $AVCVF American Vanadium Corp.

This article by the lead investigator at Biosolar says that Lithium Cobalt are pretty much at where they will be for the next 5 years. There will be refinements to enhance current capacity and life, but no major improvements. That’s a good thing ig you have Lithium and Cobalt stocks. There are Lithium air and Lithium sulfur batteries on the horizon that will improve capacity.

General question…
I’m a newbie regarding electricity storage and batteries, but I’m very interested in those topics and investments.

My intuitive question is “Is there a better alternative than existing battery types for storing electricity?” What concerns me about lithium is its explosive tendencies. You can’t ship lithium batteries through the mail, exploding lithium batteries have brought down a plane, lithium batteries seem to be relatively “large” for some items, etc.

Hopefully somebody will come up with something non-explosive and able to store energy very efficiently. The analogy that comes to mind is computers from the 1960s compared to computers today. I’m old enough to remember Eniac and punch cards, and today the average smart watch has more computing power and memory storage than rooms-full of the old computers. I would LOVE to invest in electric-storage technology that would parallel the computer development story.

Any thoughts?

Thank you, SoGiAm!

I agree regarding solar (and don’t know enough yet about the others, so I need to learn more about them).

I guess the problem with solar is storage for when the cells aren’t being recharged, although I just saw a teaser somewhere for some Chinese technology that takes care of that (I need to track it down to see what it is).

Also, I found the following very interesting/promising, but I don’t know much yet about the company’s financials or business model:

SolarWindow™ Technologies, Inc. (OTCQB: WNDW) is developing first-of-their-kind electricity-generating see-through windows and products for America’s 85 million detached homes and commercial buildings. http://www.solarwindow.com

Has anyone looked into this company?

You know the saying “if it is too good to be true”. That’s what I come away with when I read their pages on their technology. They cite several “independent studies” and can’t link or publish one of them. Do they have any patent applications. I’d do a background check on management and see what business experience they have. Their balance sheet, I believe, says they are $4mil in the whole. At the current share price I think I think you could do better. my opinion

Ben may have it right, wait for graphene. The market in the USA is not there for storage batteries. The best storage battery for off grid or just storage is the Vanadium flow Redox, it has a 30 year life cycle. Here in the USA electrical bills will have to go up or the electrical grid will have to hack, to kick the storage battery market into high gear.

SoGiAm you could be right, let’s not rush into the future, it would be chaos. Another excuse for a political knee jerk.

BioSolar has annouced a new anode compatible with current and future Lithium ion battery technology that will increase capacity, no mention by how much.

Another article from Matt Bendlsen at SA on Lithium miners, spot price, contract price, demand, supply, and more. I just took a quick read will read again in the morn.
