If you’re on the email lists for Stansberry or Agora or a half dozen other investment newsletter publishers, you’ve probably seen this ad — it’s for the S&A Oil Report, and it tells us that, for a wee subscription fee, the editor of that newsletter will tell us the secret that he didn’t tell Brian Sullivan at Fox News.

“Colorado Oil Jackpot: 2 cents to $2″ Badiali

This one is from Matt Badiali at the S&A Oil Report, which we’ve seen a few times already. It teases a couple little companies, but first starts us out with a long-winded teaser about the idea of investing in penny oil stocks.

That’s really all the “Colorado Oil Jackpot” is — the concept that in order to make massive returns in resource stocks, you need to buy penny stocks. The Colorado part comes from the fact that there were so many tiny resource companies selling royalty rights and shares for pennies in Denver way back when the West Was Won.

That idea is teased with a few snippets from the mainstream press to give it the ring of truth — first is one about a Fortune Magazine article that told the story of how former Colorado Governor Richard Lamm took advantage of this “oil jackpot” to make $44,900.

Badiali: “The Oil Sands Story 60 Minutes Missed!”

OK, here’s one that’s causing a massive wave of Gumshoe email — I guess the Stansberry & Associates email servers are heating up again now that oil looks to be solidly above $100.

This one is for an oil sands play, as you might imagine, but (if you read through the pages and pages of teaser copy) you’ll note that this is a Saskatchewan oil sands play, not an Alberta play. That’s what they mean by the “story 60 minutes missed” — 60 minutes did a show about oil sands, but focused on Alberta. Can’t blame them, really, since Alberta is the world center of oil sands extraction and technology (or maybe Venezuela is, if you want to expand your definition a little bit).
