One Subscriber Review of Big Picture Speculator
Review by Kaseymoe, March 12, 2009
The Big Picture Speculator
A commodities oriented, irregularly issued E-Newsletter by Jim Letourneau mainly focusing on Canadian issues.
I’m a two year subscriber to the Big Picture Speculator - a small online online newsletter with and affiliated blog by the Jim Letourneau - a geologist who does consulting and appears at conferences as both a presenter and attendee to gather info for his endeavors.
The BPS has no set schedule and has an irregular format but typically features two or three spotlight issues. The portfolio feature took a beating in the commodities meltdown of 2008 and the pick list disappeared from the newsletter although Jim always provides several investment ideas - some mentioned more as issues to watch rather than as candidates for purchase. He cautions with every issue that his is not an investment advisory service -more an info service on mining and resource stocks. His recent interest seems to be in the ag sector but he’s also made mention of uranium. Largely unmentioned recently gold, silver junior mining stocks.
Pricing is Canadian which brings the price down a bit for US customers. Jim will quickly respond to email inquiries and enjoys the give and take with subscribers from what I see. I am on my second year do I did renew. Asessing the worthiness is hard since my time with his service includes one of the sharpest market declines in a lifetime - he does readily ditch losers which is good but in this environment failed to do so soon enough so if he were including a performance tally it would not be very favorable - but whose is at this time? Nobody looks very good on a one year basis.

he offers a free trial subscription.
Don’t expect a regular issue cycle - Jim is knowledgeable - he may contract with companies he features but makes such a business connection known. He recently was associated with Wavefront but I believe is no longer affiliated.
