I subscribed to the Doug Fabian High Income newsletter about May of 2008. Mostly he has recommended fixed income ETFs like SHY so not much high income there. The real disappointment was (is) PWE, Penn West Energy Trust. He recommended a 5% allocation somewhere around the 3rd quarter 2008 and during the energy price spike he recommended another 5% allocation to PWE. They still recommend holding it and I should have listened to my gut and sold it in Sept 08. I’m down about 53% in PWE at this time and they’ve reduced their dividend. He definitely did better than the major market indices for 2008 but it just hasn’t lived up to the promise of high monthly income. If you’re looking for a conservative monthly income newsletter maybe you’ll like it – I’m just not seeing enough value so I’ll be lapsing my $150 subscription.
big come on re: how he can make money through dividends but after you sign up you find out his recommendations (such as PWE) have dived. OK-maybe he’s honest (more realistically had no choice but to admit the mistakes) but ALL his recommendations are essentially to “watch to see when to jump back in”. There were NO recommendations as touted in the ad.
This newsletter is completely worthless. It essentially buys high and sells low. Don’t waste your money.
