Investech –
James Stach, editor of this unusually accurate newsletter, is a well-reasoned, erudite, smart, knowledgeable, editor. His technical analysis of the economy and the stock market is very well done and keeps him from over-hyping stocks and/or movements in the economy. You will increase your knowledge and fatten your proifits if you subscribe to this newsletter.

I’m mot much of a fan of investment newsletters, but if you are only going to subscribe to one make it this one. I have subscribed to this letter for over 5 years and have found it more than worth the subscription price.

Editor Jim Stack’s overall technical tools and analysis is second to done. In 2007-8 he was urging his subscribers to be cautious, and in March 2009 he issued a recommendation that the market was “the buying opportunity of a lifetime”. He takes a very conservative approach, urging safety first with his individual stock and mutual fund selections

This is simply one of the best letters I have read.

I subscribed to this newsletter in the late 1990’s, when Stack was very cautious about the “irrational exuberance” then extant. I was a new and inexperienced investor. I moved out of stocks at his suggestion before the crash, then back in. He protected my portfolio in the same way in 2008. In March 2009 he did advise a great buying opportunity. His newsletter is based on technical analysis and overall economic trends.. I have learned a lot from him, and made a lot of money. I haven’t been able to buy all the stocks advised, but have still done well.I will subscribe for as long as he is publishing.I can’t remember how much it costs–about a couple hundred a year–but it is worth every penny.

Stack is widely regarded as the best in the biz. No hype, no promises of 1000% returns on option investments – just conservative analysis.

His model portfolio is a solid template for most conservative investors. You won’t get rich on this portfolio but you will preserve your precious capital and steadily grow your wealth.

His technical analysis is second to none and he’s enabled me to ride out bull markets even when the news flow is making me nervous.

He foresaw the crash in 2008 and the buying opp in March 2009. What more can you ask for?

I have only subscribed for about a year. My impression after three months was the fund picks seemed somewhat tame. There is little explanation of why a fund is selected. The individual stock selections do have more explanation as to why they are good investments. After some time I realized what this advisor was doing- picking funds of moderate risk that are very likely to perform on the upside. This is no small feat and ideal for your retirement account. I have weighted my retirement accounts to more closely resemble Investech selections with good results.

I have been a subscriber for about 8 years. He is way ahead of the curve in calling market turns and events. He called the real estate bubble, financial crisis, got cautious as the crash developed and boldly called a new bull market in March 2009. He has stayed steady through out this new bull market despite the gloom and doomsters. He is very objective in calling bull and bear market alike. I have cancelled all of my other newsletters except his to avoid confusion. He truly goes by Safety First profits.

Stack’s InvesTech is just what the doctor ordered for my investment portfolio – objectivity and discipline. There are better stock pickers but few, if any, better market observers and prognosticators.

I have been a subscriber to the Investech newsletter since 2004. It is the best newsletter I have ever subscribed to and I have subscribed over the years to newsletters from Vardy, Navellier, Hsu, Kramer, Markman and Fabian to name a few. It is issued monthly and there is a mid-month update. What I like most about Investech is it’s no nonsense, no hype format. It has a macroeconomic orientation and is full of techno-babble, but its message is nevertheless clear enough for anyone to understand.

At the end of each newsletter, he lists two recommended (rather static) portfolios; one made of mutual funds the other of stocks and Etfs. However, I have never bought even one of his recommendations as I find his selections too conservative. The reason I continue to subscribe to Investech is that he seems to know when major corrections and recoveries will occur. Because of Investech, I moved my 401k to cash in November 2007 and re-entered in April 2009 thus saving me hundreds of thousands. He doesn’t try to predict the 5-10% corrections and if you’re a trader this newsletter is not for you. If you primarily need help picking stocks, this newsletter is not for you. If you need a newsletter that can help you avoid the major meltdowns like the two we had in the prior decade, this newsletter is for you.

Note: I have found the newsletter offered on the Forbes website at a cheaper rate than listed on the Investech website. If you want to try an introductory price go to: http://e-subscriptions.forbes.com and search for Investech.

Slow and steady wins the race

I subscribed to Investech in the late ’90’s, found it to be “not sexy enough,” and let it lapse. My loss. I have been subscribing for the past year or so. This newsletter fills a gap left by my other financial readings. While others emphasize individual investments or valuable trends (e.g., “oil,” “commodities,” “food”), Stack focuses on the BIG picture, namely, which way the wind is blowing. His indicators are “slow,” so you are not constantly whipsawed by calls to get “in” or “out.” My only gripe is that many of the charts of his indicators cover spans of 70 or 80 years. Hey, I’m a data-driven kind of guy, too, and I appreciate it when people allow me to see how some indicator has varied with real-world events. However, he really needs to furnish some blow-ups of the past six months, or year — or even the last ten years. Once you’ve established the validity of your indicators, 70 year graphs are overkill!

I don’t really follow all the stock advises from James Stack, but this newsletter is so good in ‘feeling’ the market.
Don’t expect “guaranteed 100% profits” slogans and “how to become a millionaire in just 15 trades” rubbish. In the screaming CNBC nonsense, this newsletter is a place of sanity.

Great at analyzing market with twice a week updates. Portfolio is conservative, but Stack sticks to his guns and stays away from the wall street sheep mentality.

Excellent educational newsletter for value investors and for general market information.

New to the site but I’m very impressed with their customer service. Level headed comments and observations are their forte.
I will probably be a long time subscriber.

Have subscribed to Investech for over 5 years. Stack’s primary focus is on analyzing US equity markets. This he has done well. Identified the housing market bubble; urged caution (about 40% invested) prior to the financial collapse; and identified the time to buy in to the market at early 2009 lows.

If you’re a trader, you won’t be encouraged. If you’re an investor you’ll do well. I would have not nearly doubled my money in the past 2 1/2 years (with very few portfolio changes and no sleepless nights) without Stack’s consistent and reasoned analysis.

InvesTech’s focus is technical and monetary analysis. Jim Stack has developed many proprietary indicators that are extremely accurate at signalling market tops and bottoms alike. I don’t follow his advice completely, but I do listen carefully when he calls a top or bottom. Note, he does NOT bother calling corrections. Since the focus is US markets, I think a good strategy is to simply use leveraged index funds or ETFs on the long or short side as appropriate. The newsletter is highly educational and well worth the small subscription fee.

Overall excellent technical analysis – however be warned, you will NOT necessarily be warned of pending corrections – such as the recent market turmoil. InvesTech has remained staunchly on the bullish side until recently – largely after the 25% correction has taken place.

If this turns into a full blown bear market their credibility will be hurt badly – if not, my confidence will have been shaken (but not broken)..

Sound analysis. That said, my confidence is shaken as I was sitting long based on their advice shortly before the market tanked. If this is a correction followed by a swift rally, as James G mentions below I’ll be fine, not enthused, but fine. Not enthused because of the opportunities I have lost to buy in low.

OTOH, if this is a bear market, their credibility wil be hurt badly as well as my portfolio.

I have been a long term subscriber.
I met Jim Stack at a Charles Allmon Investment
Conference years ago.
When Mr. Allmon retired Growth Stock Outlook , remaining subscription time went to Investech.
He has a portfolio of stocks, ETF’s and mutual funds. Safety first is what he preaches,. Small corrections are not a big concern. He appears on Nightly Business Report and other financial shows. He is based out of Whitefish, Montana.

I think I owe an update since my last post on Investech. It seems they are not in the business of predicting corrections, and while last years was big, it was fear driven, largely irrational and occured as part of a dip in an otherwise healthy bull market. Corrections like those are almost impossible to model (people who do I would argue just got lucky).

All through the turmoil James did however consistently mention he thought it was temporary (while all the voices were saying otherwise) and that there would be a swift and powerful rally to restore the balance. That is exactly what happened and demonstrates the sound analysis and reasoning that Investech has.

I learned of this newsletter from the Stock Gumshoe reviews. I subscribed and observed for more than a year before investing since I was still jittery after 2008. Many times I thought James Stack must be wrong since so many other financial people were saying to get out of the market. He turned out to be right every time so I finally started investing. Since then he has “babysat” me through several scary times and I have benefited financially by his advice. I consider his newsletter and The Dividend Machine to be my secret weapons. I rely on Dividend Machine for my stock picks and James Stack for my grounding. I also like Steve McDonald of the Oxford Club for his bond selections. These three are all I need.
