Leeb’s ETF Trader
Overall rating: 4 stars
Performance of picks/advice: 3 stars
Consistancy: 4 stars
Interesting to read/educational: 4 stars
Customer Service: 5 stars
Value for the Money: 3 stars

This email/phone/fax alert service provides specific etf options trades several times weekly. I have participated in the service (my cost $999/yr) for 2 months now. I have made money – 16%. I have an assigned agent who contacts me and I can contact him anytime I wish. However, on my own etf option picks (FAS and GLD) I have made far more money than have the Leeb picks, by a factor of 10 to 1. And it leaves me wondering, why am I paying for a service when my own picks are coming up better than theirs?

I did not subscribe to this service, but I did evaluate it. His staff sent me the history of trades. It made a bunch of money in 2007 and lost a bunch of money in 2008. His overall win/loss ratio was significantly less than 50% in 2008. There were a surprising number of call options for a market that was clearly trending down. This reflects his opinion that commodities are always about to blast off and that resource scarcity with inflation is the nature of our new world.

the commodity crash clearly caught him by surprise. Recently he began using a different set of technical indicators so I can’t say how his recent performance has been in this service.

Since I did not actually subscribe, just analyzed his past performance, I did not assign any star rating.

I too have also bought into this subscription,
his recommendations have made me money.
But I have used his plays differently than his recommendations. He likes to use a lot of options in his trades, and this is great it makes money quickly. But I usually get out when the action starts to move up at a quick pace and take my profit. I have kept track of his sales signals and although many of them make money, I have made more getting in and out at the dips and peaks. He also likes to bet on the economy which I have seen to completely fail. I have made my money back, but it would’ve been a lot less if I waited strictly by his rules. Will I purchase the service again next year, no.
This service might be of use to somebody who panics when they see their options fall quickly. As options can be wiped out in a day, and in two days later double.

I subscribed to two of their services. I followed their advice to the letter with a portion of my portfolio. They were completely caught off guard by the economic recession. Yet in their advertisements, they state that they predicted the crash and capitalized on it. Their individual stock portfolio has overall not performed the sector. They have one mantra, buy commodities especially gold. Sense the recession, this has been a good strategy. But their pics have not out performed the commodity sector.
On the phone, their CFO admitted that the return that was advertised was an extrapolation and not an actual yearly return.

I can sum up their strategy; Buy gold, oil, food stocks, that is all you need to know. Honestly, that is it, now you don’t need to subscribe.
Leeb will tell you, the world is going to get massive inflation and commodities are your only safe haven. This may or may not be correct but, you don’t need a poorly edited news letter to repeat this mantra monthly. if you do use their service, for gods sake don’t rely on them for options advice. I followed them on paper, and lost money on all of their suggestions. Do your own research, and watch the trades of investors like ken heebner, Buffett, etc, you will make more money.
