It’s an invitation to get a lot of junk mail selling a more expensive suite of advisories.

I decided not to renew as I have other publications that I like much better.

You will get at least one solicitation letter per week and often two with this service. If you heat your home with junk mail, it is the best value out there

Been a subscriber for several years and have in general had excellent results. My actions are spiced pretty heavily with my own prejudices so am not surprised there is quite a discrpancy with the other rater.Lukoy is a good example. I don’t have a value for political risk and let’s just say I avoid with a passion stocks that I deem to have a high political risk.

Usually has an interesting story for his recomendations.

Many are way too early–take a long time to bear fruit.

Some have been very good but have gone down with everyhing else such as Suncor & Sasol. Kinder Morgan has been very good
all along.

You have to allow for his over enthusiasmm.

I have subscribed for several years.

Re Bob Czeschin’s Oil and Energy Investment Report.
I have beebn a subscriber for several years and have found that his recommendations performed well for me.I lace newsletter recommendations with a healthy dose of my own common sense,i.e.,I’m a bit picky with what recommendations I follow.I rate his newsletter as good to excellent value received. In regard to his recent Lukoy recommendation I personally will not put that in my portfolio because of my aversion to political risk. Today’s Russia is way above my threshold of tolerance for political risk.

Bob’s stories are fascinating but, I always feel that I am being led to a sales pitch – which I am. The problem with these newsletters is the frequency of sales pitches. Each claims to be the end all – be all of newsletters then bombards you with breathless pitches for the next level of letter or special report. The way I figure it, if these guys are so smart why do they need to sell newsletters? Why not spend their time investing wisely? Yeah, yeah, sure, it’s because they want to “share their knowledge…blah, blah, blah…..” Good work, Gumshoe. I did my own research and came to the same conclusions. As for the investment, I am not averse to risk, but Russian risk is another story. Talk about a volcano!!

I like Bob’s style, i.e direct, no nonsense and admitting mistakes, as any other human being.
I deeply regret not complying with Bob’s stop losses recommendations as they appear on an easy to read table at the end of each issue.

I never subscribed to his e-mail version despite his very attractive proposition to do so, many years ago. Well, better late than never !

Dear Bob, Please deliver t me your e-mail version, thanks

GNM

An invitation to tons of email smut and spam, along with plenty of snail mail junk.

Folks, This newsletter is not bad for a small portion of your speculative money. He has recommended some good stocks early. For example, I took his reco of LUKOIL in the late 90’s when it was a penny stock. It was quite a roller coaster ride. Also, be prepared that some of his picks stay stagnant for extended periods of time since a lot are cutting edge R&D energy plays. As I said, for speculative flyers his recommendations are not bad for a small portion of your money. Keep him away from your core portfolio money, though. Also, be prepared for a lot of junk mail pumping sister publications.

I subscribed 18 days ago… I received my order confirmation mail… and nothing more… despite a few mails and fax… to the customer service (without answers)…
Any help would be appreciated… Never had such problems by subscribing to financial newsletters.
Thanks in advance!

Hfj,

Their customer service is a bit spotty at times, however, you should get your first issue soon. Their telphone number in San Francisco is 1-843-388-2668 and fax is 1-843-388-0285, e-mail is customerservice@oilandenergyreport.com. Hope this helps. John

Thanks, John, for your kind help. Shortly after my post on this excellent website, I received a mail from the customer service. Investigation is beginning… When everything will go fine (I hope), I’ll rate this newsletter :o))

I finally received my last issue. It seems interesting. We must notice that there aren’t monthly issues. A new issue comes when the editors are feeling that the “market timing” is good.

they continually tout higher priced letters and leave only small area in the newsletter for the stuff you are paying for. how can you go wrong on mid sized oil co’s? they didnt mention bexp which actually has performed great!! reco from another letter @ $2-3 and is now near $17. so when renewal time comes i’m history. apache was one of rheir reco’s thanks for the chance to tell it as it is. don johnson

I’ve subscribed to the Czeschin O&E letter for about 8 or 9 years. As someone suggested, they send the letter periodically when the timing appears to be right. I’ve made a lot of profit from their recos. When I get a letter, I research it right away and, if I’m going to invest, I do it soon after receiving the letter. I find the letter to be easy to read and usually ahead of the curve for investing. I usually get in at very good prices. I have stocks in my portfolio that were suggested in the letter years ago and they are extremely profitable at this point. I’ve experienced very few duds. I wouldn’t be without the letter even though they do use it to try to sell more expensive services.

subscribed to this letter about 4 years ago. Consistently poor advice. Any winners were early on during the beginning of the specified hot item. any winners have been usually high-priced stocks. The lower priced stock recos have been regular losers. He usus this vehicle to tout the higher priced $5.000 year oil letter.

I’ve been with O&E since the early 90’s. I have subscribed to countless letters over the years. This is one of the few I have never canceled. Not that he’s some top outperformer (I have no idea), but I have an energy bias, and O&E is a good cheap source for ideas that are liquid enough that the price hasn’t already popped by the time you read the letter. I learned about Candian Energy Trusts and oil sands from him way before they were a hot topic. Suncor (SU) was a 10-bagger for me at the peak, still about a 6-bagger. (I think anybody strictly following his recos did not make that kind of money; he uses trailing stops, whereas my view is hold ’em if they still look good – he’s been in and out of SU a number of times on stopouts and buy-backs. I’m riding a nice run in AMSC now thanks to him (or did he stop out on the recent decline? – I don’t even look at his stops).

A caution is that you should do your own DD and common sense after reading his letter. You don’t get any financial details about the company in the letters – just all the optimism. Follow-up on recos is infrequent – mostly when there are new positives to rave about.

Another caution: sometimes he gets on a doomsday kick (mostly Middle-East based) and uses it rec companies far removed from the Far East. Which is fine, but don’t buy them just because of the rant. I have learned to be relieved about a doomsday topic when he delves into it – over the years, there have been dozens of them, and not a single one has come to pass. (eg, Saudi family overthrown; Israel bombs Iran, Iran shuts down the Gulf, on and on).

A worthy note is that he predicted $100+ oil back when it sounded like lunacy to say that. However, I endured the decline of oil to $10 under his watch, which he failed to predict, and all of his recos got crushed, so much that I nicknamed him “the oil bozo”.

A final note, from one who has spent tens of thousands on letters over 3 decades: Don’t subscribe to ANY letter; or do a few cheap ones like O&E. Take your money that gets tempted and put it in a decent mutual fund instead. You will do much better, because even if the letter is decent, you’re starting out behind. AND DON”T BUY ANY TEASERS, even if you figure them out yourself. I have done some of my own “gunshoe” work (can’t light a candle to the awesome Mr. Gumshoe, though), and I don’t think I’ve made money on a single one. As you can see, Mr, Gumshoe finds many dubious things about these stocks, and he is right.

Best wishes to all, and thanks for an awesome service, Gumshoe!

Focus is on oil and energy and is reasonably priced at $99. Did well with LUKOY reco a few years back. Issues come irregularly but solicitations for more costly subscriptions come in droves. Doesn’t appear to be the value I once thought it to be.

I have subscribed to O & E for a long time and I agree with all the other comments. He has had some good recos but also some real duds which he seems to dig up and refresh from time to time. I have been tempted many times to try his high priced services but have never done it. Has any one tried any of these? I would like to hear about it.

I have subscribed to Oil & Energy Investment Report for a number of years. I have bought a number of his recommendations after DD and after several weeks of observing the stocks action. I have made good money with his recommendations that I chose to purchase. I watch my stocks closely and adhere to a strick 15% loss on a stock is a sell, letting my winners run. The primary value to Czeschin’s news letter is to alert one to stocks that they would not ordinarily hear about. The primary fault of the news letter is the infrequency of the issues. I would prefer and would be more comfortable with a monthly newsletter even if the results were the same as the previous month. I have called their office several times to verify that I have not missed an issue and the public relations is poor and does not impart confidence that his staff is on top of things. The push to Options is not appreciated and unwarranted! The upshot is that I will continue to subscribe but choosing recommendations carefully.
