RAM Energy Resources (RAM)

By dscott3541, September 29, 2011

Has anyone looked at this company closely? It has had a lot of good, and some bad, commentary over the last year and has been quite volatile. I’m interested in speculative plays in US oil/ natural gas stocks, and this is one I’m looking at. Curious if any insight out there.

One research group continues to recommend it. They have looked at the projects, people, and so forth, and continue to put their own money into it.

Could the shares go to zero? Certainly, but management changes suggest the company is serious about becoming a viable, long-term business.

You mentioned interest in oil and natural gas. I forgot to add that http://www.ram-power.com is geothermal.

Please disregard my prior comments, unless you also have an interest in geothermal. I see the company you asked about has No management or board in common with Ram Power. A place to start might be to see if the financial people (Austin, or Gicaletto), CEO (Lee), or any of the directors have been involved with questionable ventures in the past.

At the risk of oversimplifying … RAM has been around since 1984, and seems to have little to show for all those years. It seems to buy leases, and sell portions to partners with deeper exploration and development pockets. More recently, it appears to be selling assets to pay down debt. In the 2009 and 2010 ARs, have a look at sections B and M.

These observations are based on cursory looks, and are no substitute for digging deeper on your own.
