Had a chance to listen to Bob Ballard a few weeks ago. Look him up if you don’t know who he is. The fact is these deposits are laid down on the ocean floor due to volcanic activity and have been laid down for eons and are part of the process which creates the sea floor. The sea floor (bottom of the ocean) constantly moves away from the point of creation toward the continents at which point the heavier basaltic rock sinks below the lighter continental layers. My question is why are explorers looking in the deepest part of the ocean when they could be looking in shallower water? Why make it hard when with a little research you could find deposits laid down 10 million years ago that are now in 200 feet of water rather than in 20,000 feet of water.
