Total newbie here. For trading OTC stocks, do you have to phone a broker or is it possible to do it online?
I use Fidelity[1], but seems they require a phone call. I guess this is normal?

I’d appreciate preople’s thoughts/suggestions on the best way to do this.

It’s not necessary to call anyone when using Fidelity as your trading platform. All trade entries can be done online, cost is $7.95 per trade. Quick and easy.
What you DO need to do however is go to a Fidelity investor center (ihopefully one is near you) and sit with a customer service rep to have them show you some basics on using the site. Call ahead of going and make an appointment. I’m not talking about an appointment with a Fidelity Investment Advisor – but as a self-described “Newbie”, that may well be in your best interest for at least a year or so – but instead a customer service rep. Those folks don’t offer any investment advice but can help you get comfortable with their systems and such. Tine well spent. If no Service Center is close enough to you to make the trip, then call in and do the same thing. Not quite as effective but will get you underway.
Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your level of knowledge necessary to becoming a successful investor. This isn’t simple stuff. Time and effort are required. Read everything you can find – especially articles and evaluations like found here at the Stock Gumshoe website, even if you don’t understand what you are reading. Understanding comes with repetition and time. Find other good sites that don’t charge fees – one of my faves is http://www.SeekingAlpha.com .Or http://www.motleyfool.com although it has become more a resource interested in getting you to subscribe to one or another of it’s newsletters than it one was. Don’t waste your $ on any newsletters – yet. Day will come when those may be helpful but you have miles to go before that is probably true. Read-read-read- then read some more. Knowledge is power. Just don’t get overly excited about all the stuff you read and the promises of great wealth easily obtained. That ain’t true – never has been, never will be. Don’t fall into those traps and get burned up. That’s why we are fortunate to have Travis right here at the Gumshoe Nation to expose those “teasers” and their newletter services. Pay attention to what he (Travis) has to say!
