But this comic from xkcd captures modern online marketing really well — and some of these sound like teaser pitches I’ve seen in my email box. A nice dose of perspective when an email pitch makes you start to quiver with desire, greed or fear:

The headlines are the joke because the events are real but were never published on the internet to get clicks. 1905 was Einstein’s Theory of Relativity; 1912 was the Titanic hitting an iceberg and sinking; 1920 was votes for women resulting in, among other things, Prohibition and rules against night labor by women; 1928 the discovery of penicillin, a mold which kills bacteria, etc. Now that I have spilled the beans you can work out the others yourself. Prohibition was established by the 18th Amendment in 1919. Women suffrage was required by the 19th Amendment the following year, tho I know some states had done it earlier.
