Travis: I see you are using Gravity Switch for website. Is it possible to have a thread of unending length broken into pages of 1000 to 2000 posts? Example BIOTEC; pg1,pg2,pg3 that is searchable? Also is it possible to set each page as it is filled to be set to read only so it is permanent archive for reference/download? On homepage under Irregulars could you have link posted to current/active threads , spreadsheets, calendars, tables, hints etc. Is it possible to have spreadsheet as irregular accessible only? I download threads that interest me & have them in my own office program or temporarily in quicknote using mainly firefox browser & Gmail & Outlook mail programs with zero problems searching. Just a thought for increasing convenience of others. Thanks fa

  1. Hi Frank,

We’re working through some ways to improve things, particularly discussion threads, but not all of those are possible — Gravity Switch is the firm that helps us, but the platform we’re on has some limitations.

The spreadsheet is not something we have anything to do with, other than the fact that I created a public Google spreadsheet that anyone can use. It can’t be restricted unless you specifically choose the people to restrict it to. We are not publishing or verifying the information in any way, so that’s up to the folks who use it to do with it as they wish.

We have never turned off a discussion thread, but could consider doing so in the future if folks want us to (and particularly if authors want us to). The ultra-long Dr. KSS comment and discussion threads on biotech stocks have taken on a life of their own and I think the solution is probably to better organize them and give people an idea of who the frequent commenters are and the ability to highlight the best comments, find comments by person, and improve the search capabilities of the site rather than trying to create a more complex system.

We are currently mired in fixing the foundations of our site, putting our revenue from the Irregulars to work improving the invisible and boring stuff first. We’ll be trying some more fun and possibly noticeably useful things out over the coming weeks and months to see what might help, stay tuned.
