As you will all know, Christmas is coming. I wondered if anyone had an idea what ’A Friend’ might want Santa to bring and whether youd like to contribute?
Your call.

Not meaning to be mean, but I dont want to make this into some personal generosity auction that could embarrass others……so Id suggest a MAX of $20 or min 20c as personal finances allow. Only ONE person will know how much you sent (not me)….and they are sworn to absolute secrecy. So if you send $100,000 or 20c, do not expect different applause….its the thought that counts.

Alan,
As the self appointed Senior HR VP to the CEO it is my responsibility to remind you that many of your loyal subjects may not celebrate Christmas or Santa or Jingle Bells. Suggest you switch the title to Holiday Gift Giving…. Just sayin’

Not self appointed……appointed (unexpectedly) by ‘others’. Da di da! call A rose by any other name….! I think you get the idea.

In any event, what religious connotation do you apply to Jingle Bells? Is there a religon that doesnt have bells……doesnt celebrate some date?

Alan, I think Howard was talking of himself as being self-appointed. I am in.

Thanks Kris. I was indeed referring to myself
Alan- Yes Alan there are religions that do not have Bells and do not celebrate a holiday every year in December.
It was not important to my point which was merely about sensitivity.

Seriously Howard,
Do you think that any reasonable person would be offended when someone says “Merry Christmas”? “Jingle Bells”…., seriously. And who has Santa harmed? Here is what would offend me if my nature was that I could be offended: Political Correctness period. So I am not offended by your message, just perplexed. So I am not attacking your message, but I do object to it.

Jack
Seriously? Yes.
This is not about Political Correctness.
It is about sensitivity. Seriously
And yes there is a difference.
I can’t possibly know if someone is offended by “Merry Christmas” any more than if someone said to you “Have an easy Ramadan fast”.
Sorry if you object to that line of reasoning.

I would not be offended if “Someone said to you (Me) ‘Have an easy Ramadan fast’. Why would anybody be offended by any friendly salutation offered in a spirit of friendliness and good cheer?

Alan, the easiest way might be for you to set up a Paypal account by just giving us a temporary email address we could use to send you the donation??

Alan, What a wonderful idea! Please count me in. Dr. Kss gives us the gift of his time and knowledge, unique experiences and well thought out opinions every day. I look forward to our giving him a holiday gift to let him know just how special he is to us, and how much we appreciate him.

Methinks the unexpected largesse will embarrass our giftee mightily.
Rather than cause any embarrassment, I will make 2 gallons of some type of healthy, nutritious, sure-to-be-doctor-approved, soup for our local street ministry/food bank, Mean Street Ministries.
(Their clients also work at the food bank & are able to have a hot, nutritious lunch on the days they work. If anyone is familiar with Denver, the mean street they work on is Colfax Avenue, mostly on the W side.)
Cheers,
Penny

Agree with Penelope. Maybe there is a favorite charity or non-profit the giftee has that we can contribute. Whatever is decided I am in. Thanks

I will be making a donation in Dr. KSSs name to a liver research organization, something along the lines of The National Cancer Society except for liver research. Of course, they will wonder, “Who the heck is this KSS feller?” 🙂

I found the “American Liver Foundation” at http://www.liverfoundation.org/ and the “Marion Bessin Liver Research Center” at http://www.einstein.yu.edu/centers/liver-research/ in the States, “The Foundation for Liver Research” in the U.K., and “The Australian Liver Foundation”. I chose “American Liver Foundation”.

The most interesting site (but not a charity organization) I found is at http://www.scliver.com/ . “The SC Liver Research Consortium (SCLRC) is an organization of physicians specializing in hepatology and gastroenterology clinical research. SCLRC’s mission is to team research sponsors and SCLRC’s 80 research sites together to provide faster, higher-quality research results compared to the current “conventional” sponsor-site arrangement. This is accomplished by providing streamlined contract and budget negotiations, access to our scientific expertise in study design, efficient site selection, and ongoing site evaluation.” The sponsors (approximately 60) are listed at http://www.scliver.com/sponsors.html; the research sites are shown at http://www.scliver.com/network.php .

I have an Idea of starting a fund to compensate/reimburse fellow Gummies, who are in proximity, for attending Conferences/Events (like the upcoming ASH in SF December 2-6) , Earnings calls, etc. and reporting their findings, discussions, answers, thoughts back to the group (IRR’s) in order for ALL to make better informed investment decisions. I envision such as contribution analagous to farming: planting a seed, watering, weeding, feeding, harvesting and consuming the fruits of our labor. It would be a gift that keeps on giving.
I’m in for this one too which should include Glenn IMO.
Have an fabulous weekend!
Shalom 🙂

I’m in. Penelope might be right, but since we don’t really know KSS, I wouldn’t assume anything. From his Twitter account, he REALLY loves photography, literature and music and travel. He is a person of strong likes and dislikes. Not an easy person to gift.

I would suggest a paypal type gift account and let him decide how to best use it.

All: I think it would be difficult for me to organise this as Im in UK, so the currency is £. Doubtless there would be a £ / $ conversion cost and postage/delivery could be difficult. So we need a US based volunteer maybe with a bank a/c. Anyone got their hand up?
As none of us know KSS’s real identity/address/likes/dislikes (Im working on that) I presently agree that a paypal or maybe charitable donation may be best. I also think Travis can publish a pic of a Christmas card on SG so everyone can sign/comment at foot. If anyone can find/create a suitable card image….go4it and fwd to me.
