Has anyone tried this? A search on Gumshoe turned up nothing, but I saw articles on Motley Fool’s site as far back as 2012, pushing this. It enables you to choose your own stocks to create what is like a self-tailored ETF – you can include up to 30 stocks (and ETFs), for a single trade commission of $9.95 – it seems great but I’m not clear on how they choose which stocks they make available for you to pick from, and it appears one has to open an account to find out.

Patricia-I am in the process of setting up a motif account. I shall inform you and the incredible members here at stockgumshoe.com of my experiences and suggest to them that they include the core holdings of the biotech team as choices in an individual or group motif portfolio. I recently established and funded a group account with interactivebroker.com to provide a global vehicle as well as a group vehicle with which to invest.
p.s. Visit us often even when your vacation expires 😉

My thoughts are with you – I admire your family celebrating his passing as a transition as you mentioned in another post – exactly right! My father is also a USN WWII war vet – still going strong – and has been clear he wants a party, not a funeral, when the time comes.
I’m glad you will be trying out this Motif thing – I’m too new at investing to know if it’s a good way to go or not – but I’m sure you have experience enough to evaluate it and let others know.
Motif must have been a real winner — no comments on success or otherwise since January 29, 2015
I really like Motif, it’s a really decent way of spreading your money amongst a number of stocks for one fee. I created one, you’re welcome to look/critique, centered mostly around the things babies consume…+ biotech: https://trader.motifinvesting.com/positions/baby-consumables-P3hufvIH_189133#/overview
Thanks so much Simon – that gives me a good look at how it works – I like what I see so far.
