Travis, I know you own AAPL but what do you think of them possibly stopping all ad datamining on their iOS platform? For GOOG, we already know that iOS is their biggest ad revenue stream and the same is probably valid for FB. If Apple decides to go this route, maybe this year, could FB s/p fall by half?
PS: I may not see you reply right away but Lynn is working on my account so I can start seeing email thread update again…
Sorry, didn’t notice this question earlier. I’m not particularly worried, this strikes me as one of the many issues that come up for large growth companies as people try to imagine what might cause problems. Apple is not going to stop the collection of user data, or fight Facebook — anything they do to cut down on advertising or data mining could hurt the little guys and the junk apps and the junk ads, but likely not the big guys. They may well provide more privacy options for people, and some limited number of folks will take advantage of that (as a small percentage of users use ad blocking in their desktop browser), but I don’t expect Apple to change the way that apps or the mobile internet are monetized in any dramatic way. We are now at the point where if Facebook stops working well on iPhones, that’s as big a problem for Apple as it is for Facebook.
