Just a couple days ago there was an Options Play of 103,000 Contracts on UVXY with a $9.00 PUT Strike Price and an expiration on the Jan., 2017. Now Baron’s says this is the largest Options Play ever but Baron’s also says it is just the start of a set up for a Bigger Play, I was wondering and yes this is a little off subject for the Gumshoe but I know you have talked about warrants[1] and other ways to invest so I was just curious if you think Baron’s really does have a reason for the statement and what the Gumshoe thinks there strategy is besides a $9.00 Strike Put? Thanks for listening and if you comment or don’t thanks for all you have done before, you all are well respected Professionals in our Book! PS Don’t forget Mother’s Day!

  1. The tendency of all of these levered ETFs is to go to zero absent spikes in value when the market moves dramatically, so that’s probably a smart bet as long as it’s not a large part of anyone’s portfolio — as long as the VIX doesn’t spike up, UVXY should keep trending down. Whether it goes all the way down to $5 or not by January 2017 I couldn’t tell you, but it wouldn’t be shocking — these ETFs go down pretty steadily as a rule. I have no idea whether that’s the largest trade ever or not, I don’t watch options volumes very closely and that data is not as freely available as stock trading data.

Thannk you for the come back and you observations , greatly appreciated. Barron’s was the one who stated that the size was the largest ever played as well in there same quote they said this was a set up for a bigger play which I found interesting for them to say that and than leave us hanging but there is plenty of time to see what works out. Again thank you and looking forward to anything else that gets brought to table.
    Thank You
    William K.
