Agri-investments – Simply Natural

By Anonymous Questions, August 15, 2015

Has anyone had any specific experience with Simply Natural, who are offering agri-investments in mango and lime farms in Panama. Legit or scam….?

I’m just wondering if you had any feedback from anyone on Simply Natural, or if you yourself have gone ahead and invested with them?
Thanks

After posting the initial question last year, I have actually visited the Simply Natural development in Panama. It is very real and very impressive. I did subsequently invest based on what I saw and the “comfort factor” this visit gave me. 6 months later I do not have clear title in my name yet, but there have been recent moves on this front and red flags are not being raised; this is all within the timeline I was originally advised to expect. Before my visit, I did find the developer very willing to answer a whole bunch of questions that… Read more »

Hey Andy. It’s been a few months and I was wondering if you secured title in your name yet. Thanks, Mark

Mark. Nearly there. Delay was my side trying to get Apostille done on documents. Now solved. I am comfortable that this is moving forward.

Did your title come through?

Not yet…much to my frustration. I am told it will take another 12 weeks. I must admit that this is becoming a concern. Anyone else had problems (or better still, received title)?

I visited the Simply Natural farm last month in a large group. I was greatly impressed by the operation. I met someone who invested a few years ago. While he was happy with his investment, it took him two years to receive title. You are dealing with a third-world bureaucracy, so some investors may receive title in six months, some in a year, and some may take two years.

I guess we’re in the two year group, even though (as my wife just said) they PROMISED us it would be done last December.

Hello Michael, was wondering what group you checked out the farm with? Any other trips or investments coming up?

Andy/Stonewalker,
I have my fingers and toes crossed for you both. I noticed some interesting changes on the web recently:
1. http://simplynaturalinvestments.com/index.html is now HrVest Holdings an agri business private equity firm. They are not listed in open corporates and I could find no explanation on SNI Facebook of the change.

2. http://www.campoorganico.com
who provide farm management to SNI has been offline for weeks

Both of these could just be an employee of both that doesn’t know how to run a website but it certainly didn’t boost my confidence.

I invested in mango plantation in Sept 2014. Still no title.

We invested in early 2016 also and STILL have no clear title. I get responses telling me that one thing or another is holding it all up, but sixteen months is a long time. Maybe not in Panama. I was impressed with what we saw, though I’ll admit we invested sight unseen and visited when we could. The sales guy was a little dicey, but nice enough. Just a sales mentality. As long as he thought we might invest more we got a lot of attention, and he did seem to appreciate our visit, though that was a disaster (not… Read more »

I invested in Sept 2014 and still do not have title. One delay after another. The simply natural people are very slow on responding to questions.

Hi,
I am a Simply Natural investor. Here is a travel blog that I write that has three articles about Simply Natural. Our experience has been highly favorable.

Hi Andy,
I am looking at a Hardwoods Unlimited investment now. Did you ever proceed and are you satisfied? The were referred to me by a trustworthy contact, but one can not be too careful.
Thank you.

Hi Scott – I passed on this one in the end; more to do with timings involved than anything else.

Visiting Simply natural in panama in February tour. Hoping for follow through on there part after they receive funds. Such as title plantings and selling of fruit with the 30/70 split of profits after expenses when the time comes. Plan seems great but I did dig up another company that fleeced folks out of 35k and delivered nothing and they had no recourse with a similar farm in a box scenario. Just looking for a reason to believe from an outsider who knows. I’ve ran a tree removal and trimming business for 30 years and looking for an investment for… Read more »

I’m also considering investing in an Avocado farm that Simply Natural has in Panama. Mangos are another option we may consider as well. The sales pitch and accompanying material sounds great. But having read about similar scams, like you, I’m trying to perform due diligence to ensure I don’t get fleeced out of money I can’t afford to lose. I was hoping some people who had gone this route before would be able to provide some guidance.

Hello James,
How did the visit go? Pleas tell us about the experience, and did you wire them all your cash?

Cheers,
Greg

I visited them in Feb 2017 and I am interested in Mango and Avacado farms I met their Campoorganico -the management team and he seems to be well informed. It is impressive to the least. Only worry in my part is not able to select the location of your plot as they decide it, though development is great and still needs to check the market aspect of the mangos and avacado’s as the sale pitch of 17% return has to be verified. It seems this will also qualify one for friendly visa of Panama, I am gathering more info and… Read more »

I too am interested in the Avocado Investment. Do they start planting the tree’s on your plot even though you do not have title?
Thanks

My understanding is they do not need to wait for title to start planting; they do this in parallel. So it does not delay returns.

I see they are also saying the first batch of investors have received returns on intercropping; this is unverified but looks promising if true!

I am very close to investing in the Avocado Farm with Simply Natural but am concerned about the discussion concerning delays in obtaining title. Doesn’t sound like anybody has actually received title yet. Has anyone started receiving any returns at all from previous offerings from this company?

To all who have posted on this page – I have not had any luck with the Facebook page that Aaron was supposed to have set up. So I have set up a Group on Facebook to discuss any questions you have. I myself am very close to investing in the Avocado farm. I am no expert in this area – I simply set up a group to see if I can help facilitate questions and discussions. The group name is Investing in International Agriculture. Just search it out on Facebook and request to join. Whether you want to vent… Read more »

Don’t sign until you research the principals of the company! You can join the SN Investor Group by emailing a request to mailbox@cprpacific.com. I decided to pass on this investment after learning more here.

After a lot of research, meeting with the president of Simply Natural in Panama City, independent meetings with ag investment brokers, visiting the farm twice, and having the contracts reviewed by my attorney, I have made four separate investments with SN. I received my first payments this year and I am very impressed with the administrative staff, the management and the farm team. I grew up around agriculture so I feel confident in my due diligence. Some of the things to consider are reliable access to water (they are located on a major river, which they have legal access to,… Read more »

Very intersting post.. thank you. SO they did $125 Million USD in business last year… but paid out to investors exactly half of projected payment… how strange… I also bought a couple of hectares and have been waiting for the title for 2,5 years instead of promised 6 months… i am very nervous … and have heard that some land in Panama is Right of Posession and cannot even be titled… ?

I get being nervous. But remember, this is Panama. Nothing moves fast and SN is at the mercy of a bureaucracy that moves slower than molasses and where manana doesn’t mean tomorrow, it means just not today. From start to finish, it took me 9 months to get my residency. And our parcels first need to be registered with the provincial government and then the deeds need to be processed. This is not right of possession land. ROP is found mainly on the north coast and in the area of Bocas del Toro where it was previously owned by indigenous… Read more »

Anyone investing in the organic lime plantation?

Brian

Hey, Victoria. My first investment in SN was one hectare of the Lady Victoria Mangos and one hectare of the Rainforest Limes. I have since made three additional purchases (one hectare each of the My Fair Lady Mangos and Panama Hass Avocados, and two acres of the new Fruit Basket offering (combination of plantains, bananas and pineapples). I have received the title to my Lime hectare and the intercropping payments. I look forward to my first crop next year. I had heard after I made my lime purchase that the first five year’s crops have been purchased by Whole Foods.… Read more »

I found this post while I was researching on the email I just received. Please, see below and advise if any good. as I ‘m very new to all these investment businesses and don’t want to lose my money. Dear Florence, I hope you’re doing well. Due to your interest in the agricultural investments that Lief Simon has discovered, I wanted to bring you up to date on the availability of the Simply Natural investment offerings. The Tropical Fruit Basket plantation was recently bought up completely by a large investor, so the Fruit Basket is not available anymore. The Rainforest… Read more »
