Gold

By siff, February 2, 2016

Hey,

My question is : Is it now or soon, we should think about investing in gold?

I don’t think of buying gold as “investing” — I do do some speculating in miners and related stocks, since they’re levered to gold, but I don’t buy gold because I think I can sell it soon for a higher price, I buy it as a currency hedge against dollar-based savings more than anything else.

And whether it goes up or down over the next year I don’t know — that probably depends more on what global currencies are doing than anything else.

Siff, I realized I commented here only in terms of owning physical gold when you’re asking about miners, and I don’t mind making a specific recommendation (something Travis has to refrain from), so please see this comment I just made on this thread re: SGDJ:

Hear, hear! Anyone who studies financial history and comes to a very different conclusion about gold than Travis’s is a victim of incorrect thinking. It’s a form of savings or insurance – not an investment.
