As you may have noticed, we’re shaking things up in the design and layout of the site.
Most things will continue to work very similarly to how they have in the past, but the site will work much better on mobile devices and smaller screens now, and should be generally easier on the eyes.
We’ve also simplified the basic design to make finding information a little bit easier (there’s still a ways to go on this bit) — we’ve simplified the menus at the top to make it easier to find what most people are looking for: new articles, articles that are generating a lot of attention, teaser solutions by newsletter, and active discussions of any kind.
Some of you will hate this immediately, and I’m sorry to spring the new design on you, but this is generally a pretty quiet time of year hereabouts so hopefully we’ll all have time to get accustomed to the new layout.
We’re not trying to make life more difficult, but we are trying to make the site as accessible as possible for more people.
This is step one, and we will be working on fixing bugs for a little while as well as pushing forward with some larger additions and alterations as funding and time permit (including improving subscriber reviews/rankings of newsletters and hopefully improving our search functions).
So, two things: First, thank you to the Irregulars who make it possible for us to continue investing in the site…
And second, if you notice bugs or have concerns or questions about how the new design works for you, please comment below so we can compile those questions and concerns in one place as we move forward. There are plenty of small things that aren’t working perfectly yet and where fixes are in process (like the custom avatars for commenters, for example), but there are likely some issues that we have not yet identified.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for your help!
P.S. if you’re not yet seeing the new design, that’s either because we pulled it back to fix something or because your browser cache still is still feeding you the old design — you can clear your cache if you’re anxious to see the new layout, but for 99.9% of you it will update on its own before too long.
well done! congrats on the growth.
Hi Travis.
On the “Most Recent Comments” page, clicking on some of the comments will not take you to the comment. They take you to the top of the article page, then you have to manually comb through the comments to find the one one you clicked on.
Thanks — clicking on the name of the commenter should take you to the comment, but we should be able to make the links more accurate.
Thanks.
Most of the links worked as they should. But, some did not. For example, the one labeled :

Thanks… that’s an odd one, we’ll look into it.
I don’t see your personal portfolio displayed anywhere, or did I miss it?
Hi Joe-
You’ll find Travis’s portfolio listing by going under “Articles” in the top menu on the homepage. In that drop-down, you’ll see “Premium Content”. Go to that page, and on the right, in green, will be links to all of the Irregulars-only items, including Travis’s portfolio. Feel free to email me at lynn@stockgumshoe.com if you have any more questions.

Lynn You have the worlds best unemployment insurance…..
You are worth more than what Travis is paying you.
Voila! The best insurance against job loss. Thanks fa
Looks good Travis, will comments automatically populate as they happen or will it still require refreshing the page? Just thinking in terms of keeping up-to-date on the Dr. KSS threads.
Thanks! Right now you’ll still have to refresh to see additional comments posted — we’ll look into that as a possible improvement.
well you were right, I immediately kinda hate it. I liked seeing the most recent comments right there on the first page now i have to hunt around for them. also, and this is more of a comment from before today’s changes but it always bothered me…..I get signed out way too easily and then i have reenter my name and password all day long in order to access premium content. I wish there was a way to just stay logged in indefinitely.
Thanks jaime — most recent comments are still on the side of the home page, with a much longer list under the “discussion” menu.
We’ll check into the session length — if your browser accepts cookies that login should be available to you for a long period of time, but it may be that we can extend the actual session.
Have to check the new environment, but on the “old”, strangely enough I NEVER got signed out on my iPad. ???
Those variables can differ widely among different platforms and environments — for most people the hope is that you should be able to stay logged in to the same session for a week or two, and cookies, if you enable them, should stick around for much longer to remember your login.
Also, there’s no longer a Dr. KSS page?
http://www.stockgumshoe.com/author/dr-kss-md-phd/
There is — under articles go “by author” and you’ll see the recent articles, or click on the author name in that list (or on any article) to get to their page.
Hi Travis, – I like the new look; however, please retain the numbering system (1 -50, or will this change to something better) for comments as it will be very time consuming to find out where one leaves off in the threads (such as Dr. KSS’ material) Starting new pages is fine, but continuing the numbers without stopping at 50 for each new thread would be great so that one can reference (by keeping notes) a comment that one wants to revisit or pass along to someone else. – Cheers, – Curt
Time stamps on the comments are something you might want to add back, Travis. Unless I’m just blind…
Good catch, thanks.
2nd that fwiw.
I can’t chase down the “reader started comments”, “Most recent comments”, “Most active discussions”, etc. etc. as they run away from my mouse ha ha!
Gui_, I have no idea why the links would run away from your mouse, if that continues please let us know using the contact page (stockgumshoe.com/contact), we might have to run it down.
there doesn’t appear to be any way to fully open and read the end of any comment that goes beyond three lines in length.
Can you copy and paste an example of a link that doesn’t work of that ilk? I can’t find one, links to long comments are working on our test machines.
well if you open “most recent comments” you will see that every comment on that page is cut off after three lines by an ellipsis. then, the only thing you can click on is the title of the original article. then, you would have to find the comment you wanted to read in the comments section of that article but even then the comments are limited to 4 lines and there is no way to read the rest of the comment. visit the conflict diamonds article comment section to see what i mean.
The author’s name links to the comment, the article title links to the article — we’re working at improving the clarity there, but it should work now if you click on the name of the commenter.
Hello Travis,
I appreciate the clean fresh look. Best wishes on the bugs. There are always bugs.
At present unfortunately I really don’t like it. But will keep chugging along and try and work things out
Hey, it looks great, Travis. Always good to shake things up!
Beautiful job Travis! None of us like change and it will take a while to learn my way around, but I am so grateful to you for having this forum where I learn so much from others that are far more intelligent in these matters than I.
Thanks!
Thanks to you Travis and your continual effort to make this portal as fluid as it can (and responsive, that is the way you were looking for :)).
If you need some feedback from us, please feel free to ask!
Pretty like the improvements made so far!
Have a very good week end to all of you.
I’m sick. Can’t find the ARTH Microblog. If you could get us to that page we can wait til you get the new layout fixed. Thanks Travis.
If you put “Arch Therapeutics” or “ARTH” in the search box it’s the first result — the page is here: http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2015/08/microblog-discussion-re-arth/
Travis, after reading the 31 comments, I clicked “reload” and was taken to the original article instead of to the 31st comment, like I used to get in the old system.
OK, thanks.
Very kewl site upgrade! Having a laugh though at your line – “sorry to spring the new design on you, but this is generally a pretty quiet time of year hereabouts” – then tonight markets go NUTS over-reacting to Brexit. So unexpected, the polls were so wrong; I’m in favor but didn’t think it would happen quite yet.
Travis,
No doubt I will like these changes eventually but right now I do not. I got pretty used to the old format.

As did we all. Thanks for the comment.
Sometimes a change, even for the better, just takes a little getting used to. From what I’ve seen so far, I like it. much cleaner.
Travis,
On another note when will the likes start adding up again? I notice the overall count of likes for any individual Gummie has stayed the same for months.

New look stinks!!
I haven’t learned to navigate under the new system. I liked the chronological sequence of the Dr. KSS material and the sequential threads. I think it would have been the best of worlds to keep the old system and have a better index–something on the order of Google where a juxtaposition of words would get into older material. Of course no one asked for my opinion first.
The chronological and sequential things about the comment threads won’t really end up changing, though there are cosmetic differences now that we’re ironing out.
A better indexing of all content would be lovely, but that’s a surprisingly complex and expensive undertaking (and it may be impossible given the constraints of our operating system) — improved searchability and sortability for comments are on our list, but we’re still searching for an effective solution.
Hi Travis. Thank you for your commitment to improvement and change.
You are an awesome fellow with an astoundingly great and much need service.
I hope the comment reference number may be displayed other than in the reply link for copying and linking back to the spreadsheets. i.e.
