Awesome! It looks like Stina was able to retain key management from Gildemeister Energy Storage. I will put them on my watch list and subscribe to their news letter.

I looked at Sunnova and Eguana for 3 phase compatibility. Sunnova sells solar and battery is not publish much for details no 3 phase that I can tell either residential or commercial. Eguana who makes controllers for solar and battery list their controllers for Lithium battery and no 3 phase.

$STNUF – Bisoni-McKay Property

While I was on the Stina web site I looked at their project and found it interesting, because it shows the ore grades and the Gibellini vanadium project just to the north. The Gibellini project was leased by American vanadium which failed and has 23mtons at grade of .29%, and 131 mtons at inferred 7 Mlbs V205 @ .21, Stina’s project has 11.9 mtons @.39% V205 = 92.82 Mlbns V205 inferred 7 mtons @.42% = 59.22 Mlbs V205. Me thinks more drilling needs to be done. Prophecy Development Corp. share price has been as high as $4 currently $2. Considering the tariffs,,,,

Just for info. Batteries supply Direct Current DC which must be changed to Alternating Current AC to be transmitted on the power grid. Once you have AC all that is needed to make it 3phase is a converter which may be incorporated into the inverter which converts DC to AC. That can be done using any sort of battery or directly from solar. Most wind generators natively supply AC and in some it is already in 3phase. They need to convert to DC for storage in batteries.
Therefore having 3phase as part of the battery switching is not a big advantage. If there is demand for it to run industrial motors that is easily supplied as an add on anywhere it is most convenient.
For on site solar or wind with battery storage, motors running directly on DC would be most efficient, lowest energy loss.
For vehicle use DC motors are used for engine starters or built into
wheels of EVs.
The real advantage of using AC is the convenience in making it high voltage with transformers for long distance transmission from remote power plants.

I’m wondering now how the efficiency of DC motors compares to Ac. Which might lead to more DC motors as the electrical grid changes.

That article seems to infer that the choice of motor is more about application than type of motor. Thanks Cowboy

The efficiency of the two is very similar. If you are creating DC as with solar cells you avoid the energy loss of converting to AC if you use DC motors.
AC motors would be better if your source was a wind generator which was providing AC and you would avoid loss in conversion to DC. There are unavoidable losses every time energy is changed from one form to another, but to be stored in batteries it must be DC.
Motors with an armature and slip rings or brushes will run on either AC or DC,,, Such as most hand tools, if the voltage is correct. It can also function as a generator if it is driven by an engine or in an EV being used as a brake when coasting downhill to help recharge battery.

Thanks arch1, I was aware of using a motor as a generator, done that. I was not aware of running AC on DC. Though I assume string enough batteries in series for 110 volts DC might take some doing.

An auto alternator can be fitted with a controller to disconnect the car system and feed higher voltage to the stator windings and it will put out 100 volts or more( depending on speed of rotation) to run ordinary saws, drills impact wrenches and the like. They will run fine on 100 volts DC.
At one time kits were sold to do this so ranchers and farmers etc could operate for small jobs in remote areas. Prolonged use would likely overheat the alternator. You could even arc weld small runs, using DC rods.

A warning; The vehicle system absolutely must be isolated from high DC voltages or all your 12 volt bulbs turn to flash bulbs and computers, radios etc will be immediately fried. Also 100 volts DC delivers a very nasty shock if you contact anything uninsulated and the ground.

Good article fills in some back ground on Gildemeister history as it should since it was sponsored by Stina management. I would like to know about management can they really put three companies, Gildemeister, Jet Power & Controls, and Stina Resources together and make it work. I’m a little Leary about spinning off the Vanadium asset since the vanadium electrolyte a critical part of the VRB particularly formulation. I would like to plug into this VRB Buzz the author mentions.

American Vanadium did have the Cell Cubes UL approved. for the NY Metro install(?)

We drove out to Palo Duro Canyon (2nd largest canyon in the US) near Amarillo last October. While I knew we/Texas had wind power, I was still surprised at how many units there were. The battery application here seems a given, especially with the costs dropping.

Batteries should be a given. They have the potential to level electrical rate charges even at peak demand. Just finished reading a short article about a power plant in Oakland, CA that has been burning jet fuel for the last 40 years. PG7E is going to replace it with renew-ables and batteries out of 3 or 4 bids it was the cheaper way to go. There is another article that says the buyer still needs to be aware for solar but there are 3-4 states that are turning that around.

https://pv-magazine-usa.com/2018/04/02/tesla-solar-roof-installations-appearing-in-the-wild/

This installation is not solar panels,m it is tiles. I wonder how fire resistant they are if used in an area prone to wild fires.

Griffin they should be more fire resistant than most roofing except reflective metal roof. Though the solar panels are called tiles they must have glass or glasslike surface to allow light to penetrate. They seem to be designed to resemble slate and how they would compare to fire safety of a slate roof
would probably be similar. Good choice for off grid forest dwelling.
In a severe fire all structures are vulnerable.

I’m posting this link not for what it says about any specific as what it says for the amount of work being done. As noted in the article of announcement this database has been collected over the last decade. The improvement of technical equipment is advancing at such a fast rate that what may have been deemed of little value a decade ago can now be explored with greater detail for value. NREL putting this data in the Public Domain greatly increases probability of finding more value.

This maybe a little hibrow but considering what we may have invested Technology advanced companies we should be aware of continual advancements.
