$OROCF – An Update On Orocobre
by Matt Bohlsen

Summary
Orocobre has struggled to lift production volumes, but may finally be turning the corner.
The stock is well-placed as a pure-play, low-cost, lithium producer about to ramp up and expand production to 42,500tpa LCE. Further upside from Advantage Lithium, and Borax Argentina.
Toyota Tsusho Corporation (partly owned by Toyota Motors) increased its equity stake in Orocobre, as well as being the main off-take and project partner.

GIL recommended? yes cornerstone is GIL recommended, and I’ve been getting his free newsletter for well over a year. I don’t know what people think about that guy, and everything I’m about to say is just my impression or projection, not based on any real knowledge, so take it for what it is. My impression is he is not an analyst so much as a paid marketer, possibly paid with shares. He admits freely he is invested in the companies he promotes. He pumps those companies shamelessly, consistently talking about 5 bagger, 10 baggers, and twenty baggers. He has a paid service, which is costly, and then the free one, that I am subscribed to. He is also pumping the price of various commodities such as gold, always saying it is about to blow, hit $1400 in the coming weeks, blah, blah, blah. When it goes down instead of up, either the stocks he promotes, or the commodities he tells you are just tomorrow going to explode, you can rely he will send out a communication telling you to hold on, or usually how cheap it is, and you should load up. Many of the companies he promotes spike up in value after being pumped by multiple sources, then slowly descend toward huge losses. I can’t say if he gets shares for his promotion services, then passes on the tips to his paid clients, then pumps and dumps into the people buying from his free newsletter, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all. His language and style is one of a marketer or promoter, not one of a unbiased analyst, always with the urgency to get in now while you can, and the lure of 10 baggers. I’d be very wary of buying anything at the stage where he markets it for free, or after the stock price has already been pumped up. Just my own opinion, and I could be wrong.

Didn’t HN have a couple of extensive write-ups on how several of these companies were related, including owners’ names and ownership %, as well as how these were connected to China in earlier post – either on this or the thread that covers scandium and Clean Teq ? HN, I hope all’s well. I miss your analyses.

VRB Energy and Pu Neng are the same company; Pu Neng is the name used for Chinese operations, VRB Energy is the name for sales and operations outside China.

Therefore whatever manufacturing of components is done, is likely to be inside China, where Friedland controls the Pu Neng factory.

As far as I know it is not possible to buy into Pu Neng directly, unless there has been an offering in the last 30 days I am unaware of.

$FYI – Volume 16 PV POWER PLANT TECHNOLOGY AND BUSINESS
September 2018

https://solar-media.s3.amazonaws.com/assets/Pubs/PVTP%2016/PVTP16.pdf

I received this yesterday and have just found time to read. This is a 102 page report and I have only read the Introduction, who reads the intro, if your interested in soler modules that’s what this report is about. How much do you want to know here is part “A team from the ZHAW Zurich University of
Applied Sciences detail the flood of bifacial products in the market now and crucially the available tracker infrastructure to deliver the best LCOE improvements (p.66). One such tracker manufacturer, Soltec, shares some of the lessons it has learned from its efforts to optimise its technology for bifacial modules (p.81).We also look at offshore solar, potentially
the next frontier for floating solar installations (p.60), and an innovative hybrid project combining solar PV with rice husk-fuelled biomass (p.84).”
“Our regular Storage and Smart Power section includes the second part of our in-depth look at flow batteries, the long-duration technology Increasingly looking like a natural bedfellow for solar (p.111). ”

Now I’ll read the report. Solar farms on the ocean what’s next.

This is an excellent read it is an overview of PV systems globally, module technology, module testing, inverters, battery, and,,, I’m only about a third of the way though 102 pages but they are covering the sections with out getting into too much technical detail. If your are thinking about solar you need to read this.

“Vertical integration versus OEM
From a manufacturing standpoint, the
different providers’ strategies are almost
as diverse as their technology offerings.
VRB/Pu Neng, for instance, is 82% owned
by US/Canadian mineral resources group
Ivanhoe Capital, which is led by financier
Robert Friedland and fits into the mining
industry veteran’s IPulse group of compa-
nies. Jim Stover says that Friedland’s group
had spotted potential to capitalise on its
“upstream vanadium expertise”, as well
as a track record of working in China and
purchasing Pu Neng in 2016 (the rebrand-
ing as VRB is currently ongoing, while the
Chinese subsidiary will retain the Pu Neng
moniker). While corporate headquarters
are in Vancouver and other offices are in
the US, the manufacturing takes place in
China, near Beijing.
“It’s important to be vertically integrat-
ed here, to produce a vanadium battery.
Because the electrolyte typically is 30% to
50% of the cost of the battery, depend-
ing of course on the length of energy
duration,” Stover says, adding that VRB is
preparing to present solutions for large-
scale solar installations in the Middle East
that involve an 8-13-hour energy storage
duration.”
