Nice to see that one recover a bit after such a long collapse,
That was teased many years ago by the Motley Fool, though I haven’t looked at it lately.
hi…you mentioned in a March 2016 article that COR was too rich @ 68, what has changed to make it worthwhile @ 78? Do you think it will not drift out of the 70’s?
I think it might, that depends as much on the broad market and interest rates as anything else. What has changed is not the company, but the environment — I was slow to recognize that the market is willing to pay far more than I expected for a company with a 3% yield and 15-20% (often higher) dividend growth. Demand remains strong, growth remains strong, so the risk is that the market is overpricing the whole sector — I still think it’s overpricing by a bit, but I can justify the price now. I think low-$70s is a more rational price, and it certainly could fall dramatically below that if there’s a problem internal to the company or the market falls sharply, but I’m now willing to scale back in — partly because it might not fall that far if the “muddle along” story of the economy and the Fed continues and they slowly inch up interest rates over the next year.
Travis, is it possible to get a picture of what your portfolio consists of. I am always curious as to what someone with knowledge holds versus me who has very limited stock market intelligence
My portfolio is roughly divided between individual equities and diversified funds — the funds portion will probably roughly mimic the index over time (and much of it is in index funds), I list the names that are part of my stock portfolio here, along with links to times that I have written about those names: http://www.stockgumshoe.com/personal-portfolio-irregulars-only/
Dear Travis, my man,
I follow you when I was a young man, now I am 66 years old and retired. It seems most of the articles are out of my taste, I still read it from time to time. As a retired professional, I wish you can devote a section or new section for high dividends or high yields stocks for us ” old ” folks, rather than a lot articles in your website promise a pie in the sky. case in point, when I was a young man and still ran my business, I had truck of stocks like MDVN and OPHT, I still own the latter. Now I am most interested in high yield dividend stocks. For example, like DLNG, DLNGPRA, ARR, ARRPA, PPHMP, etc.
I know a lot of your subscribers just like me, OLD.
Yours truly,
Ytse.
Thanks Ytse, I do write about dividend stocks pretty regularly, and own a few, but when they’re not heavily traded they don’t always get my attention. Will keep an eye out.
ytse, this thread is created for that very purpose: http://www.stockgumshoe.com/2016/04/microblog-72-the-rule-of-72/ savethethumpingmanate, wild bill and Travis share their insights there occasionally; you and others are welcome to share as well. Best2You ~ Ben
