Bitcoin or Blockchain? Where is digital currency heading?

Has anyone taken a look at digital currency companies such as Coinbase or Chain? Where do we think these technologies are heading? Will one be preferred more than the other? Or are they interrelated to the point where one cannot exist without the other?
