Elysiumhealth.com (https://www.elysiumhealth.com/basis)
Start up with an interesting web site and reference to peer review articles for their NAD/FAD drugs. Circumventing the FDA and going straight to market, a private company. Their product, Basis, contains two products: Nicotinamide Riboside (NR) and Pterostilbene. NR is a precursor to NAD found in Mitochondria, core to cell function. Pterostilbene is more potent than resveratrol when it comes to improving brain function, warding off various kinds of cancer and preventing heart disease. Elysium isn’t the only pterostilbene, ChromaDex also offers pterostilbene for supplements separately from Niagen (NR).
Apparently NAD fuels the activity of sirtuins, including SIRT1—the more NAD there is in cells, the more SIRT1 does beneficial things. One of those things is to induce formation of new mitochondria. NAD can also activate another sirtuin, SIRT3, which is thought to keep mitochondria running smoothly. (Scientific Am article below)
It appears as though this is good for mice, but not sure if studies in humans bear the same. I don’t believe in the common descent of the species and thus why animal studies don’t always bear out in man. On an evolutionary scale this is also possible by the evolutionary distance of said enzyme. Regardless, it has an interesting naturopathic web site worthy of a gander, with some hot shot Nobel people. I am not taking any supplements nor invested in the companies, but have noted a few gummies expressing interests.

$CDXC is one of two companies marketing NA. The other is Elysium. Nobel laureates involved with both. This seems like a “supplement” worth following. NP Best Don

OT: re: bio start up Unity
There Is a Fountain of Youth … for Rodents
That’s is the conclusion of first-of-a-kind study by researchers at the Mayo Clinic, which found that mice lived about 25 percent longer on average if so-called “senescent” cells were cleared out from their bodies.
The results, reported today in Nature, outline a possible new tactic for treating diseases including glaucoma, arthritis, and heart disease, and potentially extending human life, according to lead author Jan van Deursen, a molecular biologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
The research is already the basis of a biotechnology company, called Unity, co-founded by van Deursen and Judith Campisi, from the Buck Institute for Research on Aging.
Also from the article : anyone familiar with Elysium?
Elysium, an MIT spinout backed by several Nobel Prize winners, to simply market a nutritional supplement instead of waiting for proof its pill really forestalls aging. Nelsen, the venture capitalist behind Unity, says he takes the Elysium pill every morning

$CLLS…long…the first biotech I ever owned. It got me interested in the field.

Spin-off predicted a while back on stock Gumshoe.

I wrote an essay entitled “Gene Therapy for Potatoes” May 2015.

Nobody was interested. Have to blow my horn on this one.

Soothes the sting of not doing well in the sector over all.
