Steel companies are all pretty cheap based on projected earnings these days, but I don’t find them particularly appealing as a rule — unless, of course, we go into a real tariff war and start to protect US steel companies with more tariffs on imported steel. That would lift them all.
Don’t know a lot about AK Steel, but their debt burden is more worrisome than is the much larger Nucor’s, for example, so my guess would be that they are more in need of a real change in the market trends (rising steel demand or prices, for example) or an intervention from the government to improve their outlook. That’s just a quick opinion, though, I’ve not done any research in the steel business for a long time.
