(Bloomberg) — President Donald Trump signed an executive order to reduce dependency of critical minerals used in everything from batteries to phones.
“The comprehensive order aims to identify new sources of critical minerals, ensure miners and producers have access to the best data, and streamline the leasing and permitting process to expedite production, reprocessing and recycling of minerals at all levels of the supply chain,” according to a statement Wednesday from the White House.
The U.S. in 2016 was reliant on imports for 23 minerals including cobalt, lithium, graphite and rare-earth elements, according to a report released this week by the Department of the Interior. The U.S. was most reliant on China, which supplied the world’s biggest economy with at least 20 critical minerals, the report said.
The move could “open up new avenues of growth,” said Andrew Cosgrove, senior energy and mining analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence. Companies may be less inclined to “seek out properties in foreign countries.”
“This executive order will prioritize reducing the nation’s vulnerability to disruptions in our supply of critical minerals safely and responsibility for the benefit of the American people,” Trump said in the statement.

Sienna Resources Inc Commences Operations On Slättberg Cobalt- Nickel-Copper Project in Sweden
Sienna Resources (SIE—TSX.v) (A1XCQ0 –FSE) (SNNAF—OTCBB) is pleased to announce the commencement of a high resolution ground magnetic survey on the Slä ttberg Cobalt-Nickel-Copper Project in Sweden.
Slättberg’s massive sulfide mineralization is known to be strongly magnetic, owing to its high concentrations of pyrrhotite, a magnetic ferrous sulfide mineral associated with the Co-Ni-Cu mineralization. The new magnetic data will be used to potentially generate additional high priority drill targets on the project. Drilling is slated to commence in the coming weeks.
Survey methods:
Field teams are currently deployed and are using a G-859 Geometrics Cesium Vapor Magnetometer paired with a G-856AX Proton Procession magnetometer as a base station. Approximately 50-100 survey lines of 500 meters in length are planned at 25 meter spacing. The current survey will cover the central portion of the trend of historic mine workings where the initial drill program will be focused. Additional surveys will be conducted across other prioritized areas in the coming months.

We have recently closed an oversubscribed placement of $2.5 million and we plan to deploy this cash strategically and immediately. We plan to be very active on this project and expect to be drilling in the coming weeks. The global demand on battery metals such as cobalt continues to strengthen and we are very optimistic about our 2018 work programs.”

Recently Sienna received TSX Venture approval to go forward into an exploration and option agreement to acquire the Slättberg Cobalt-Nickel-Copper Project in Sweden (the “Project”). The Project consists of two adjacent exploration permits comprising approximately 9513 contiguous acres.

Slättberg is located 25 kilometers northwest of Falun, Sweden. Slättberg is a historic mining camp hosting cobalt-nickel-copper rich massive sulfide mineralization that occurs within a two kilometer belt of historic nickel-copper mines. The Project contains drill defined massive sulfide mineralization that extends to ~100 meters in depth, and remains open for expansion at depth and along strike. The Project is accessible year round, with nearby rail, power and 5 smelters in the Nordic region. At least 12 historic mines are located on the property, with historic operations dating back to the late 1800’s.

Mineralization at Slättberg is hosted by 1.8-1.9 Ga (Svecofennian) supracrustal rocks (metavolcanics and metasediments) located along the southwestern flank of a large gabbroic intrusive complex. The historic mines are positioned along an east-west trend of massive sulfide occurrences developed in and around a similarly oriented body of “leptite”. This is a local term used to describe rhyolitic/felsic tuffaceous rocks commonly associated with sulfide mineralization in Bergslagen. Mafic and ultramafic rocks also occur in and around the mine workings.

Sweden is at the forefront of an exploration and development boom in the mining industry. The country’s favorable business environment includes a low corporate income tax rate, a proactive geological survey, and broad public support for export-led resource extraction. Sweden has a long history of mining, and is host to some of Europe’s largest active mines.

Governor Jerry Brown is a hero to progressives and a villain to conservatives.
But to me, he’s little more than a prime source for invaluable investment intelligence.
Last Friday, Governor Brown signed an executive order that is an absolute gift to the electric vehicle market and, of course, investors who have skin in the electric vehicle game.
Under the terms of the executive order, $2.5 billion is about to be ponied up for 250,000 new electric vehicle charging stations while calling for the state to commit to getting 5 million zero-emission vehicles on the road in just 12 years.
As a side note, some folks have included hydrogen vehicles in this “zero-emission” mandate, but the reality is that nearly every one of these 5 million zero-emission vehicles will be electric.
To put this into perspective, today, the Golden State is home to about 350,000 electric vehicles. In order to get to 5 million, you’re looking at a compound annual growth rate of 24.81%.
This is huge.
But even with this new executive order, California still isn’t the biggest market for electric vehicles.
China Loves Electric Cars
In 2017, about 700,000 electric cars were sold in China. That’s more than all the electric cars sold globally in 2016.
This year, 2 million electric cars will be sold, and by 2020 that number will reach 3.4 million.
And it doesn’t stop with electric cars.
China’s also going big on electric buses.
This year, the city of Shenzhen’s entire bus fleet will be electric. And this is a huge fleet. We’re talking a total of 14,200 electric buses.
To put that in perspective, the largest bus fleet in North America is in New York City, where 5,700 buses run on a daily basis.
Moreover, the entire bus fleet in Shenzhen is bigger than the five largest North American bus fleets — combined!

Of course, Shenzhen is just one city in China. If you look at the entire country, you’ll see even bigger numbers. In fact, last year, China’s total electric bus sales reached 116,000.
Make no mistake — for those looking to make a few bucks in the electric vehicle space, China is a cash cow.
But here’s the best part…
The Ultimate Electric Car Stock
There are any number of ways to play the electric vehicle boom in China.
But perhaps the best way is through a Chinese company that few in North America even know about.
This particular operation is not only in the electric vehicle and electric vehicle battery businesses, but, most important, it’s also in bed with the Chinese government.
Say what you want about how China operates or subsidizes its biggest corporations; the bottom line is that if you’re running a company in China and you’re not in bed with the government, you’re never going to amount to anything.
It’s just how it is. I’m not saying this is right or wrong. I’m simply stating this as an observation of truth. I also say this as an investor who’s made a lot of money by investing in the right Chinese companies.
I’ve done it in the past, and I’m going to do it again. And this time it’s going to be with this under-the-radar Chinese electric car company that my colleague Chris DeHaemer recently clued me in on. He calls it the “Ultimate Electric Car Stock.” I call it my next triple-bagger.

Got an Energy & Capital teaser email today from Chris DeHaemer (www.energyandcapital.com, Angel Publishing) talking up BYD. He only teased it though, saying he would release a report ‘later this week’ so it sounds like his reco has NOT YET been issued.
Here’s a snippet from his E&C teaser:
“I’ve found a $10 company that is the largest EV maker in the world, and you’ve probably never heard of it. It is profitable and has a 19% share in the Chinese market. It looks so good that Warren Buffett, a man who said he never invests outside the U.S., owns a large portion of this company. And, as I said, unlike its competitor Tesla, it actually makes money.
“But it’s not just cars. The company has sold 40,000 e-trucks so far and expects to sell about 400,000 in the next decade. It is also big with high-priced, high-margin e-buses and has sold more than any other company.
“Though the company sells 90% of its products in China, it is pushing overseas. It has an ad campaign by Leonardo DiCaprio and has hired the former design head from Audi. The company has plants in California, Toronto, and is building one in Morocco, with eyes on South America.”

A quick Google of the terms Leonardo China Electric Car gave up BYD. I’m putting it on my radar (mainly to see what kind of bump it gets once he releases it to his readers), but with the September run-up from $6 to $10.50 I’m thinking any near-term profit may be hard to come by.
