written by reader Scandium, Cobalt, and Water Purification: Clean Teq Holdings,Volume 2, 2018

By hendrixnuzzles, January 31, 2018

2017 was a year of tremendous accomplishment for Clean Teq Holdings in every respect.

We saw remarkable achievements in mine construction, in finance, and in market development, with landmark contracts in every business segment;

We saw a complex business appear as if by magic, including business offices on four continents, and the launch of business website in the water division;

We were informed of superb existing and newly-formed strategic partnerships,
with the likes of Airbus, Peng-Xin Mining, Chinese state and power entities, Chinalco, and Multotec;

We were witness to a major off-take agreement with a leading battery manufacture;

We learned of an astute acquisition of a controlling interest in a VRB business by Mr. Friedland;

We learned of deep and valuable research and development support at prestigious universities and manufacturers;
and we became sure of unseen low-cost manufacturing contacts and alliances.

And oh-by-the-way, we got a listing on the TSX.

The company inspires confidence and optimism. Robert Friedland has a deep long-term strategy, and he knows what he is doing.
I am not sure what is more impressive: His strategic vision, or his managerial talent in executing it.

Clean Teq is a company that is worth following. It is by far my largest position.
There are a lot of companies with good concepts. But Clean Teq has a deep and brilliant strategic concept which is at the heart of major world trends; a revolutionary technology; and a management that executes flawlessly.
**
GOING FORWARD: SUITABLE TOPICS FOR THIS THREAD

1. CLEAN TEQ HOLDINGS, CLEAN TEQ WATER, and their interests, or related companies.

2. Miners and producers of COBALT, VANADIUM, SCANDIUM; also nickel, zinc, graphite, lithium, rare earths, silica, and manganese.

3. WATER PURIFICATION, especially when tied into mineral extraction therefrom.

4. “TECHNO MINERS” and other innovators in mining and material extraction

See notes below on thread and topic overlaps, which are unavoidable.
**
One year ago this week, I wrote an article on Clean Teq Holdings. It was a speculative company, but
one with a visionary and proven leader, dramatic potential in specific, attractive commodities,
innovative methods and IP for mineral extraction, and big ambitions in water purification.

Clean Teq Holdings defied easy categorization, and continues to do so.
One year later, Clean Teq has not disappointed. Clean Teq has exceeded all reasonable expectations.
**
If you need background on Clean Teq, I refer you to the predecessor of this thread: “Scandium, Cobalt,
and Water Purification: Clean Teq Holdings”, where you will also find the guidelines and rules for this
thread; and to the Clean Teq and Clean Teq Water websites, which warrant close examination.

OUR BIAS AND BASIC VIEW
This thread is for those who believe in the coming EV wave, light weighting of transport, and most importantly,
in the importance of energy storage and batteries of all scales;
and also, it is for those who believe that the disruptions caused thereby will be rapid.

Because of this opinion, it follows that the existing viable battery technologies and the materials needed
for them are important. We anticipate rapid change; we subscribe to the Tony Seba “Disruption Scenario”,
that suggests disruptiv changes are occuring faster.
If you disagree with the Disruption Scenario, or the eventual proliferation of EVs,
that is fine; but please do not debate it on this thread. The thread is for those who believe in the future of battery power,
and in the immediate opporunities in commodities related to batteries and energy storage.
We will be able to see in shortly whether we are right or wrong in this belief.
If it takes longer than we think, we will complain about ”being early.”

My perspective is for the next five years. That is “long term”. This is not a trading thread.
Occasionally short-term opportunities are appropriate to call out,
but short-term trading is not the emphasis here.

On the other hand should restrain ourselves from too much attention
to developments and materials for technologies that are likely to take longer than five years to have an impact.
We are looking for investable ideas, not 10 year forecasts on the Future of Civilization.
So let’s keep it down on hydrogen fuel cells and molten salt batteries for a couple of months.
**
NOTES ON THREAD AND TOPIC OVERLAPS
Our assumption is that Li-NCM, VRB’s, and zinc batteries are going to be the main battery formats purchased,
installed or contracted for in the near-term, hence the commodities needed for them are of interest.

New battery technologies are better discussed on the #batteries thread ,
unless they involve a vertical commodity/battery producer.
We are interested in what is going to have an impact in five years.

For example, if you are convinced that Google is about to conquer the world with a molten salt battery,
then come on over here and recommend Morton Salt as a buy-out candidate.

But debate whether molten salt batteries have a future, and when, on the #batteries thread.

News that shows increasing penetration on solar are relevant,
as they confirm the importance of large-scale energy storage.
But we would like to know who is getting the contracts and what type of battery they are using.

There is going to be some unavoidable overlap. Nickel and manganese sources are swing metals,
sometimes they may be better discussed on the Hard Asset thread as base metals.

If you make a post on the wrong thread, don’t worry too much, there are
no fines or jail time. I do it myself all the time and I understand it can be confusing.
You can also use Travis’ new cross-reference gizmo.

Thanks chas! This has been a big drop for them. There should be two markets. One for trading and the other for investors. Trading today makes no sense and affects pricing. The two used to be related.

I agree, but once there is some news coming out of China/USA /Japan/ Korea (to-day they reported progress still going well in all these countries), the share price should recover strongly .
There is a few down-rampers (mainly ADVFN ) but also seems to be a robust amount of long term holders.

In case you missed current news

1) Neill Ricketts (CEO) will be a speaker at the American Graphene Summit, hosted by NGA, on May 21-22nd in Washington D.C. find out more information here: https://www.nationalgrapheneassociation.com/dc-summit/
2)Versarien plc (AIM: VRS), the advanced materials engineering group, is pleased to announce that Yi Luo is joining Versarien on secondment from the UK Government’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (“BEIS”) as Deputy Head of International Strategy and Government Relations. Yi will replace Peter Jay who is returning to the Department for International Trade (“DIT”) to take up a new senior role.
Yi will be focussed on progressing the Company’s international expansion, particularly in China, working alongside Matt Walker who has been on secondment to Versarien from the DIT since May 2018.
Hope this helps

Thanks again chaS2411
I get the releases from both camps, and I own shares in both companies. I am heavier in FGR and was waiting for the market downturn before I added more VRS. I do not think that this drop has anything to do with the general market feelings, however.

Until I find out what is helping this drop come about, for some reason I am not as interested in a quick buy in as I used to be. 😉

A comment above stated “Trading today makes no sense and affects pricing.” What I meant is that trading futures just for gambling and pumping effects the pricing of the commodity more than reserves, availability, politics, etc……..

Best and good luck! ……edski

Hey williamstown! FGR seems to be doing OK and I don’t have a question about their operations. VRS has taken me by surprise by it’s recent drop, and I couldn’t find anything written about it, is all.

I’m long FGR and VRS, waiting is most of my investment life now, so I’m good. Don’t get on here like I used to either. Life keeps getting the way…

I believe HN stopped looking for hidden messages in CTEQF press releases in order to devote himself full-time to looking for hidden messages in Trump tweets. I sold 80% of my shares immediately after seeing their DFS at a small profit for US80 cents. Unfortunately, I held the remaining 20% until it dragged my initial investment into the red. Now sitting at 19 cents, yikes, that is super scary considering how much money I had there. Not a holder anymore, but wouldn’t touch this even at the present price, Ardea is a better value straight up, IMO, but can be bought at 1/5 the price. Glancing at todays news, rare news coming out of the company these days other than local picnics and such, I didn’t see anything I interpreted as particularly positive, I’d predict the stock gain is very short lived, but who knows. Won’t get up due to acid consumption? That’s a big claim, do you have a reference, or just a claim with nothing behind it? . My research, which is pretty extensive, hasn’t turned this up as a risk factor. Nothing what you’re talking about shows up in this 33 page analysis of their process and viability. https://ardearesources.com.au/downloads/research/arl_rpt2018062901.pdf

“The recent alloy production was the second such AlSc master alloy production test run performed by NioCorp and researchers at Ames Laboratory’s Materials Preparation Center. NioCorp is currently developing its proposed Elk Creek Superalloy Materials Facility in southeast Nebraska, which is expected to produce approximately 95 tonnes of Scandium Trioxide annually once it is constructed and enters commercial operation, according to the Company’s April 2019 Elk Creek Project Feasibility Study. Current global production and consumption of scandium is estimated by the U.S. Geological Service (“USGS”) to be approximately 10-15 tonnes per year, most of which is believed to be produced in China.”

Regarding nickel…

“However, the deficits that have recently characterised the market could disappear for a couple of years as new projects in Indonesia start to produce nickel that can easily be turned into battery chemicals.

Projects in Indonesia include a high-pressure acid leach smelter in Morowali financed by a consortium led by China’s Tsingshan Group.

“Things are happening quickly in Indonesia and at current prices, which aren’t really high enough for many Western projects,” Wood Mackenzie analyst Andrew Mitchell said.”…

Excerpt above is from mining.com. As a CleanTek long, not liking the sound of that. What do you guys think?

The LME inventory is down, more nickel is going to used in the cathodes, how many battery factories are planned and how many are going to be coming on line, auto manufactures have got people making more $$ than I am in the market and they are getting into the mining business, it’s all about demand. $FYI –
2019 September Update and Graphene Enabled Smart Cities
Dear Ionic Shareholders and Friends,

It’s been some time since our last update, however rest assured that we have not been sitting idle.

On the water treatment technologies, NematiQ continues to work toward commercialisation goals directed by our JV partner CleanTeQ. At this sensitive stage of their work, and given CleanTeQ’s requirements under ASX rules, it’s important that we don’t steal their thunder by giving any details about NematiQ’s progress, however we look forward to more updates from them in the near future.

We have also been busy on our supercapacitor work, exploring options for manufacturing the devices with several potential partners and also developing new intellectual property around manufacturing processes to handle the advanced materials that we’re working with. Much of this is subject to commercial-in-confidence discussions at this point but we’ll be sure to share more as soon as we’re able.

Lastly, Ionic has been proud to support the Australian Graphene Industry Association through its early development and more recent maturity and we’re delighted to be part of its second conference focused on graphene enabled smart cities. The conference will address a number of themes that touch on how graphene technologies will shape the fabric of our society in the near and long term. You can read more about the conference here: https://grapheneindustry.org.au/conference/
You can also get early bird ticket pricing, but only for the next 24 hours, here:

$fyi – Further Nickel Supply Disruptions

Dear Clean TeQ News Subscribers

Further Nickel Supply Disruptions

As reported overnight by Reuters, Tawi-Tawi Province, a nickel mining hub in the southern Philippines which produces mostly high-grade nickel ore for direct export to China, has suspended extraction operations indefinitely. The Philippines was the world’s second-largest nickel ore producer in 2018 after Indonesia, with both Southeast Asian nations as the top two suppliers to biggest buyer China. In 2020, when Indonesia bans nickel ore exports, China is expected to rely mainly on the Philippines for supply of the material for stainless steel and electric vehicle batteries.

Less than three weeks ago, Nickel prices surged as Indonesia, the world’s largest producer, said it would ban exports of raw ore in December 2019. The South East Asian country will bring forward a planned 2022 ban in an effort to attract more processing business rather than just exporting raw materials. Indonesia was forecast to export over 200,000 of contained nickel in ore this year, approximately 10% of global production.

This latest development in the Philippines serves to highlight the risk for downstream users in the nickel supply chain, including the rapidly emerging EV industry.

The full transcript of the article is available here:
