$PTOTF Yup. Agree. I like the potential for this stock. No position now. I got tired of waiting and then it too off after I sold. Still watching, but it has real potential IMO!

I missed this post earlier, but it is indeed Patriot One. The identity of the company was cracked the day the tease was released, and it has been well circulated among several blogs (so were are not first out of the gate).

I have been doing research into Patriot for the past couple of weeks but have not completed my DD as yet. My intention was to write something up for the community in the next day or so as I think this may be of broader interest (note – I have no position in the stock as yet, but starting to get interested).

The “Little Black Box” is a concealed weapons detector based upon ultra wideband microwave imaging (the same technology they are developing for the detection of breast cancer). This application of the technology was developed by a professor from McMaster University under the auspices of NATO and Defence Research and Development Canada, an organization with which I have had some dealings in the past. I have read DRDC’s paper on this (issued in 2014).

The “box” has been approved by Industry Canada and the FCC for trial deployment, and it was on the strength of those approvals that the stock jumped to its current level. Trials are ongoing at several sites, and the main attraction is that it is small and can be concealed behind walls in passageways, etc, and through its cognitive algorithms hopefully identify the type of weapon being carried. It is a far cry from the huge, walk through detectors we see at airports. Gummies may want to watch the video on the company website.

I personally see opportunity here, but this is not new technology and we need to be sure they can can in fact protect whatever unique IP they may have and indeed be first to market. They are small players in a market dominated by a few majors, and if you read the risks outlined in their MD&A it is clear that they fear competition above all else.

I am happy to keep digging and report back in a few days if the community is interested.

The robotics and automation market was previously forecast to grow 18.75 fold from US$ 64b to US$ 1.2 trillion in the next ten years, led by consumer (personal) robots.
Robots may replace 800 million workers by 2030.
A look at some robot companies.
The ROBO and BOTZ ETFs are a good broad way to play the sector.
