Have a question in mind that you think is so dumb you’re embarrassed to ask it? That’s what we’re here for today!
This bonus post was inspired by a reader who wanted to know “where to ask a dumb question” here on Stock Gumshoe… and while his question was not actually stupid, and I’m happy to see questions pop up in our comment threads anywhere on the site, I thought it would be a great idea to open the floor and be more welcoming for the shy, the embarrassed, or, yes, even the uninformed.
So this is a no-judgement zone… smart people do things we’d call “dumb” all the time: Warren Buffett didn’t invest in Google in 2004, Albert Einstein married his cousin, and I just had to go back and double check that I didn’t call him Alfred Einstein (which I’ve done before, in print). So if you have that question that you can’t ask your stockbroker or your brother-in-law or Twitter without feeling like a dummy, let ‘er rip by submitting it below. I’ll be nice… and we might all learn something.
And yes, the SEC is always watching, so I must remind you that I can’t give personal investment advice… but I’ll try to share whatever opinion or answers I can provide to any investment-related question you’ve got, though if we end up with a lot of them it might take me a little while to answer thoughtfully.
So please, let your questions fly using the friendly little comment box below… and thanks for being the best readers in cyberspace!
(I will moderate the discussion just to make sure we don’t get too much profanity or offensive stuff, or personal attacks, but I’ll use a light hand — you can be mean to me if you like, just don’t be mean to any other participants.)
I have joined so many of these “Show you how to have income so you don’t have to be at the bottom of the barrel, that I am poor because the fees I paid to learn didn’t teach me anything other than the fact that they got rich off of me and others who got taken in. Now I trade with Ben Sturgill, he is not bad at what he does. I can’t always trade his recommendations and he does not always win. However, he gives you enough information for you to make a choice when you do have the funds. I have a small account of under $ 1000.00. But for the rest, I found they if you look deep enough you will find that they are connected and use the same strategies under different names. I wish there was a way to shares these letters and come to some consensuses on what to trade. What I find here is so much comfort that I can’t thank you enough.
Anyone know what these Stock Rental Royalties are being pitched by Wyatt Research?
Could someone be so kind as to explain why the market dislikes Kroger? KR was the only member of the S&P 500 that was up on serious Correction Day 6/11. This morning (6/18) it reported Q1 earnings and revenue that exceeded expectations. I would think businesses like Kroger are essential during a pandemic which, by all accounts, is far from over. Why then is the stock being “punished” today, down more than 5%?
“The Market” likes Kroger just fine, the shares are up 10% this year while the S&P 500 is down 3%. It has fluctuated wildly as people rush in or out of “safer” stocks like this during the coronavirus panic, so perhaps the safety-seekers just got a little ahead of themselves and forgot that it’s fundamentally a slow-growth grocery store. I wouldn’t overthink the volatility, it’s a good company with a pretty steady business and a decent dividend and valuation — it could go down, it has before and the business is punishingly competitive with Walmart and Amazon as their major rivals, but it’s not likely to be among the fastest stocks in the market in either direction.
Thanks for the perspective. I guess I just get annoyed when a safe-haven stock is taken down after a good Earnings Report and not even for profit-taking because the stock trades sideways.
For those interested in diversifying a portfolio laden with tech & biotech stocks… What do think of newly-IPO’d stock Warner Music Group (WMG)? Its primary business is the development of recording artists, promotion, licensing of music, etc. My initial impression is that it’s going to be Motown 2.0 for a new generation of artists and the music industry. Of course with a recent IPO comes volatility, but other than that, do you think this stock will take off eventually?
(The above is an abridged version of something I posted previously under a different thread which is “awaiting moderation” Sorry for the repeat.)
Any idea what Motely Fool Canada’s “Genesis Trend” pics might be (offering 1,348% growth for 2020 alone)? It’s under their Tend Spotter service just being teased now.

Any options newsletters worth taking
There was a huge crop of those five or six years ago, and we got lots of complaints — in general, it’s hard to recommend an options trade to even a couple hundred people without blowing up the price.
Hmmm…
That could be a useful tool for watching where the big herds are going.

So, is anyone still buying shares of their favorite undervalued stocks or are you waiting for the market to stop its volatility? Any particular bargain stocks you are buying into? I’m picking up SOFI , as I think their platform is great. Of course I’m biased as I’ve been using them for last 3 years.

We would really appreciate your thinkolator service on the AI recommendations of Shah Gilani. Thank you so much, again.
Kaz
Hello Kazito,
Truthfully, I can’t say I follow you, nor am I part of your ever-growing e-mail list. However, I have witnessed your generosity in sharing answers to teasers with the Gumshoe community without, I’m assuming, no remuneration.
Therefore, I support your request for help from the Thinkolator and hope you receive the response you deserve.
Hi bunion132.
Thank you for your kind words. I just wanted to clarify that anything & everything I share here (or with my Email List) is without any monetary expectation. I just do it because I like to help fellow investors, as well as to fight the ridiculously high-priced subscription fees the gurus are charging. I don’t want these gurus to be paid multiple times for the same information from thousands of investors with their astronomically high & ridiculously priced subscription. I don’t want my fellow investors to pay for what I have already paid for. For an exception, if there is only ONE analyst who truly deserves a much higher fee for his amazing analyses & contributions is Travis, however.
I don’t have subscriptions to everything out there. So, I ask that anyone who can share recommendations from their own subscriptions to do the same as I do.
Regards,
Kaz
Hi Kaz, Just inquiring as to how someone can get added to your email list? Thanks!
Hi Retiredindover.
I will need your email address to add to my “Email List”, Thanks.
Kaz
Already sent. You have me on your list. Thanks!
I am also interested in his AI Stealth Stocks and have spent some frustrating time trying to come up with matches for all 3. I think I did match the one he describes as the security (public safety) stock as EVLV, but I’m not positive. Any guidance, Travis, would be much appreciated.
