I have been an advocate of ‘flower-end’ banana peeling for years since observing the way the monkeys do it! Is there a lesson here?

Truly enjoyed this write-up. About 15 years ago I was trying to do work in China. Spent some fair amount of time there. Ah the days of “joint-ventures”. LOL, we could have done dozens of deals as long as my 50% went in first. I vividly recall to this day, the time that I saw probably two dozen near new, shiny excavators all sitting in a line adjacent to a trench. Then in the trench were seemingly hundreds of folks with shovels. I asked our interpreter, “what’s up with that”. The reply was, “partner done with money”. Those were the days. Infrastructure plays were everywhere. Never did any deals that paid off in spades.

But, as for Kweichow Moutai, wow, that was the drink of choice at all our banquets. I remember that the stuff smelled like a “barnyard”. It was bottoms-up, “gumbai” (or however it is spelled) all night. The drinking was insane as we toured looking for opportunities.

After reading this article, I went down to the wine cellar and looked in the liquor cabinet area. Sure enough, I have a box and bottle of Moutai exactly as shown in your pic. Darn thing has to be at least 15+ years old. I suspect that most of is has probably evaporated by now. It is an amazing drink but one that requires an “acquiring taste”.

This was a walk down memory-lane. Back in the days when I was younger and looking for “big deals” in China.

I appreciated this write-up, Travis. Thank you.

China Internet is blowing up, and I’m a happy camper owning IQ, MOMO, Bili and also Sea Ltd (from Southeast Asia). The greed is getting to me and now I want to own Huya. It feels like China’s Tech Bubble so I’m always cautious.
