“Protected”? Each province can decide what companies can supply/distribute, and open dispensiaries. In example, April 11, 2018 Quebec signed supply agreements with six Canadian suppliers CGC Canopy Growth, APHQF Aphria, MEDFF MedReleaf, ACBFF Aurora Cannabis, HYYDF Hydropothecary, and private equity owned Tilray Canada. There has been discussion as to if some of these companies have the capacity/inventory to be able to supply the quantities predicted when legal adult recreational starting October 17th. Some other Provinces have not decided yet on suppliers; i.e. British Columbia.
