I think a possible concern hanging over IIPR at the moment (at least one person is thinking about it…me!), is that if the Dem’s take over congress, there may begin a move afoot to change the status of the pot indus, or at least in the “medical” pot industry, in terms of freeing more traditional banks/financiers to underwrite loans, which today they can’t do. It won’t become legal overnight, but if the market senses that is where the US is heading, it could begin to get factored in. While this won’t impact existing lease contracts, it could affect negotiations on present and future contract terms. They have such a stash of firepower following multiple capital raises, it probably is not a significant near term issue, but lack of competition is the achilles heel of their model and currently allows crazy high rates for LT leases.
Indeed. Legal limbo and “grey area” is very good for IIPR. A majority of both parties favor medical marijuana, so I expect more legal clarity is coming… but I wouldn’t bet a lot on “fast”.
Your insight always amazes me. Lots of good info in this weeks Friday File. I know you don’t want to talk about it but do you think there could be be a short blip in market prices caused by the election outcome?
Of course. “Could” is a great word to use.
Hi Travis
What are your thoughts about LIVENT?
Thanks
Any thoughts on when the market, especially for tech stocks, might hit bottom? Thank you!
Well I’ve been concerned over the market since September and sold over half my holding and kept it in cash, Friday I bought some $FB, $IQ, $AMD, $CY, $STM, $CGNY, and increased my positions in $TDOC, $TTD, $YY, $ESPR, I am still holding my pot stocks of $ACB, $MRMD, $APHQF, $CGC , $CBWTF, $GWPH. Now I’m only holding 25% cash but I’m thinking got a deal on these stocks. Time will tell
You’re brave to nibble, failing to buy back in is what swishes so many people who rightly sold into risk… the very best days in the market tend to happen very near the very worst days, and missing just a few of those best days is enough to make a portfolio suffer.
Well for once my buys paid off in a big way, hope it keeps up 🙂
Travis, we know where you get your stop loss but where do you get the ‘fair value’ i.e. in NVDA’s case the $170? Or FB where stop loss has triggered meaning it’s time to sell but when it’s time to buy from a value perspective?
It’s not mechanical, but generally based on my assessment of a fair multiple of earnings — trailing “real” earnings, not projected future earnings.
A little off topic, but I wonder if one can explain the recent conversion of the JPMorgan Chase Warrants that expired this month ? I had 300 warrants that converted into 186.6615 shares of JPM. Can anyone explain why the warrants got converted to that number of shares? Have been unsuccessful finding and answer.
I have 38 shares of AMZN; I had a 15% trailing stop loss that was triggered last week but did not sell…….after reading your comments, I am considering selling 50-60% and buying my first foray into Berkshire Hathaway BRK-B. Going to hold on to 18 shares of Alphabet GOOG. As always, thanks for continuing thoughts on IIPR. Thanks for your great Friday File!
