Wow Travis, if you believe in a one party system move to Cuba, N.Korea Venezuela or China for 2 years and than when you flee, come back and kiss the U.S. runway after you land. Populist, free and nationalist you will be. Do you think you would have this life in any of those Socialist states. No, you would have Want and Misery…
Man, that’s some knee-jerk conclusion-jumping! I’m not saying I want to live in a one-party system, I’m saying it makes rapid development and change easier. India under a Modi mandate will likely move faster and more decisively than they cod with a coalition government.
$QCOM Thanks for the #TradeNote earlier this week, I also decided to exit with pretty good gains in hand loosely following your entry point.
Glad you mentioned something about the $NOK Finnish dividend aspect of owning the stock. I’ve got half of my position in a Roth IRA and I need to figure out if that’s going to be a complication I need to stay on top of in the future.
Investor Clouseau, I did the same thing with my Travis suggested QCOM.
Hi Travis. Are you still holding MakeMyTrip? What are your thoughts about the stock?
Don’t think I’ve ever owned MMYT, though I’ve written about it a few times. It’s far and away the largest OTA in India, and Ctrip just became an even larger owner which is probably a positive, as is the rapid growth in air travel in India… but I haven’t looked at the financials or valuation recently.
My bad. Somehow I thought you owned MMYT. I bought a small position anticipating the potential. So far it has not worked out, along with Booking.com which Motley Fool has recommended a couple of times at least. Have a great long weekend.
Hi Trevor
You mention keeping ‘cash or a little gold’. Do you have a target % of your portfolio for each of these and how do prefer to own gold ie. physical, mines, ETFs etc.? And do you have any specific recos? Thanks.
I prefer to hold bullion gold coins and gold royalty companies. Sandstorm (SAND) has been my largest gold equity position for years, and is the one I’ve added to most recently.
I keep my overall allocation to gold (coins, stocks, etc) in the 5-10% neighborhood.
Thanks Trevor. Enjoy your long weekend!

Bought NOK 3 weeks ago
Sold half my NOK after realizing it was only up about 8% in 2.5 years and the dividend wasn’t THAT big.
Travis, I just looked up MINDX and see zero volume today. Doesn’t that concern you or am I missing something?
It’s not an ETF, it’s an open-ended mutual fund — there is no “volume” for mutual funds, shares of the fund are bought and sold only at the net asset value after market close.
For traditional mutual funds like this, the more relevant numbers would be inflow/outflow of funds, often expressed as a positive or negative number for “net fund flows”. Those don’t matter on a daily basis but do matter over time (funds that see net outflows for a period of time have to sell their stocks at bad times, those that get too “hot” and see a lot of inflows might hit a point where they can no longer invest as effectively).
Hi Travis ,
Been following your sage comments re NOK, for some time. Liked getting into cloud and the $ .20 dividend. On the NASDQ site , that is what I saw and
the ex-div, date was May 31. Made my purchase on May 22.
But , now I see the dividend is listed as .06 ,the yield is 1.09% ,ex div May 22.
Same on my Brokerage site.
Very confusing. Can you shed any light on this?
Especially, since your most recent comment, still confirms that – 4% yield.
Have been in the market since 1965. Now that Dick Young is retired, your financial
letter is the only one I subscribe to. Want you to know, that all your hard work is
really appreciated. Am enjoying the reader input too.
There are a lot of smart people out there!
Those numbers are probably just copied over from last year, when the ex-div date was May 31 and Nokia paid an annual dividend right around then.
This year, they shifted to quarterly dividends and this next one, payable in the second quarter, will be the first for the year. The resolution from the AGM included the preliminary record date of May 23 and payment date of June 6, but if you want a definitive answer on the timing for ADR dividends you might have to ask your broker.
That 1.09% yield is because they’re accustomed to NOK paying an annual dividend — this year, it is authorized up to 20 euro cents, so US$0.22 for the year, payable quarterly as (and if) the board declares, so it will be roughly 4% (before taxes). I assume we’ll see that dividend approved and paid each quarter going forward, through February next year, and if they change the amount of the quarterly dividend (hopefully an increase) it will presumably be announced in February or March and approved in April or May again. I wouldn’t expect huge increases, but they have made it clear that they would like to have a steadily growing dividend.
Companies generally have a lot of leeway to change or suspend dividend payments, but that’s the NOK plan for now.
Hi all. First comment since joining this wonderful community. Thought I’d share this interesting read on 5G.
