I’m wondering myself; he writes: (The company is publicly traded and is) developing digital asset securitization services through artificial intelligence and blockchain platforms. (It’s) a $142 million public company headquartered in New York City. Trading at less than $1.50 a share. I’m sure his pump and dump has already made it shoot up to $5 or 50, based on his “Moonshots”

Also, a a $462 million network security company based in San Jose that is also using AI to combat cyberthreats…

This company secured partnerships with Microsoft, McAfee, Symantec, Ericsson and other major brands.

And more exciting, it’s working on AI to provide “autonomous security” to networks.

Check out IdentityMind Global https://identitymindglobal.com/about/ I have no idea really – I didn’t purchase Gilder’s research – but these companies seem to be networked/partnered through velocity ledger, Y2x and others – seems consistent with Gilder’s approach.

Very interesting company but there’s no way that ordinary people are going to get into these private companies. Bought $300 of IDEX on Robinhood and will look at it every 6 months.

From the transcript of Gilder’s presentation he said it was “a $142 million dollar company headquartered in New York ” and “trading for around $1.29 per share”. IDEX has a 50% or more higher cap and almost double the share price. Do you still feel it is the “Moonshot” he alluded to?

Make sure you get the right ticker, though. It’s IEX, not IDEX.

I doubt that it is IEX. IDEX fits better. Here is IEX: “About IEX, which is IDEX Corp. — IDEX engages in the provision of engineering solutions. It offers its products under two brands namely BAND-IT that produces stainless steel banding, buckles, and clamping systems; and Hurst Jaws of Life, which serves as a rescue tool. The firm operates through the following segments: Fluid and Metering Technologies; Health and Science Technologies; and Fire and Safety or Diversified Products. The Fluid and Metering Technologies segment involves in the design, production, and distribution of displacement pumps, valves, flow meters, injectors, and fluid-handling pump modules and systems. The Health and Science Technologies segment includes design, production, and distribution of precision fluidics, rotary lobe pumps, centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, roll compaction, and drying systems used in beverage, food processing, pharmaceutical, and cosmetics, pneumatic components, and sealing solutions. The Fire and Safety or Diversified Products segment consist of production of firefighting pumps and controls, apparatus valves, monitors, nozzles, rescue tools, and lifting bags for the fire and rescue industry. The company was founded on September 24, 1987 and is headquartered in Lake Forest, IL. ”

This does NOT seem like a company working in AI. On the other hand, the stock IDEX is for Ideanomics: “Ideanomics, Inc. provides cloud-based software and services. It engages in the provision of business consulting services related to traditional financings, as well as in developing digital asset securitization services through artificial intelligence and blockchain enabled financial services platforms. The firm provides premium content and integrated value-added service solutions for the delivery of video on demand and paid video programing to digital cable providers, Internet protocol television providers, over-the-top streaming providers, mobile manufacturers, and operators, as well as direct customers. The company was founded by Shane B. McMahon on October 19, 2014 and is headquartered in New York, NY.”

IDEX isn’t a good sock, very volatile- no dividend and only a 45% average return for the last 10 years. overall a poor rating.

Thanks for the link. Did you notice the similarity in the verbiage between the video “tease” and the write-up you attached? I’m wondering if Gilder ghost-wrote the article on IDEX himself or if he “lifted” the words of the CEO. Hmmm…

Anyone that misses out on IDEX will regret it until the end of their days. They are one of the most influential companies in EV buses , taxis, police cars, and motor bikes a nd light trucks. They setup the financing between municipalities and EVmanufacturers. They get a big piece of the sale and a smaller piece of the financing. They have many MOU’S with many cities in China to replace all buses to EV BUSES. They have a deal with tour bus companies to replace 800,000 buses by 2023 as mandated by the Chinese Gov. They inked a deal with GTB coin which pays them 3% of total value of GBT coin which is asset backed per year . They get 1/12th of the value monthly. They were profitable last QTR. There is so much going on with this company. I would suggest a second and maybe a third look. GETTING IN ON THE GROUND FLOOR DOESN’T HAPPEN VERY OFTEN IN INVESTING. As always invest at your own risk and do your own DD.

But, with the situation with China vs. USA (initiated by President Trump), how volatile is IDEX stock as this tug-of-war continues? I’m going in, and will ride out the bumpy road. IMHO, I think the China issue will resolve in favor of the USA side of things. So, IDEX should rise, indeed.

How certain are you regarding these (ALLT, ATEN, CEVA, IDEX, KEM, MITK, PI)? I’m starting my research on these. So far, as I looked at IDEX, I have mixed thoughts on that company. The track record thus far is pretty volatile. But, Gilder is signaling that the company has huge potential and will break out of the doldrums (if this is, indeed, the company that he touts in his paid material).

Steve – I realize most of us are in this thread looking for confidence in a stock pick, and this reply is not that. But, in the spirit of the community, and in case it helps you, I’m taking a shot to answer your question. Here’s exactly what I think of these companies… I think all these companies are in the wild west of blockchain development. Any one of them could breakthrough and most, if not all of them will fail as blockchain providers.

As I understand it, the basic investment approach used by venture capitalists is they count on one in five early stage investments just surviving – at best; they count on 1 in 20 hitting it big — I think I can find better odds in Vegas. But I don’t gamble, so, Gilder’s list is the first list I’ve seen for possible winning, tradable stock picks in blockchain, so I’m thankful to use this list as my start for blockchain investment.

I am using this list of Gilder recommendations, so kindly shared by Dave R, to do as much diligence as I can and place my choices in a speculation basket where I will put as much money as my husband and I can afford to lose – which ain’t much. My hope is that Dave R’s sharing information will pay for my irregulars’ subscription!

I will manage the blockchain basket using my stock management discipline – buy when I see my buy point (mostly TradeStops, sometimes Chaikin) and sell when my discipline tells me I’m wrong (mostly TradeStops.)

Here’s an article I found helpful where one of the leading VC’s on blockchain is saying they are holding their early investments in blockchain for 10 years. https://www.coindesk.com/andreessen-horowitz-launched-300-million-crypto-fund

So my final thought about these companies is that ultimately I have to answer a question — will we hold onto this basket for 10 years? or will we trade it based on the unbelievable volatility coming in this blockchain space? Today, I can’t answer myself.

Speculation is much more difficult than I thought it was when I started. And it’s almost impossible to do and still follow Dan Fitzpatrick’s first rule of Trading: “don’t lose your dough.”

New to Gumshoe! Happy to be here.

I read this topic with interest. While Gilder seems more of a huckster lately, I remember following him in the 90’s when he was (correctly) pushing Qualcomm, and I think he’s brilliant.

I did some of my own research this morning, and ran into this promotion for his newsletter, and says that in the video he will reveal the stock pick.

https://pro.gilderpress.info/p/GGM_moonshotslaunch_0619/MGGMV709/?h=true

I didn’t finish the video as it’s one of those endless videos that never tell you anything. So I used the link for the transcript (it’s LONG!), however, and scanned through it. I see no reveal of his pick. Just a sales pitch in the end. Here’s the transcript:

https://pro.gilderpress.info/p/GGM_moonshotslaunch_0619/MGGMV709/Full?h=true

The comments in this thread seem to point out correctly Ideanomics, Inc. (IDEX), today at $2.37. (Don’t confuse it with Idex Corp (IEX) ).

But I’m curious where Dave R found the other six companies, LLT, ATEN, CEVA, KEM, MITK, PI? Is there any public write up about these from Gilder somewhere? They all look very interesting.

Is IDEX his main tip, and the other five less important? Or does he suggest buying them all?

Thanks!

Gilder’s name brings back fond memories. In the 90’s I did very well subscribing to his newsletter. Literally every stock pick of his would moonshot (Qualcomm, JDS Uniphase, Broadcom). Was it a function of him being correct about the underlying technology or was he just part of the late 90’s internet/tech mania and riding the crest?

I had a chance to have lunch with Gilder, back in the early 1990s. It was quite a discussion and that had a good bit of impact on me and my view of things. Fond memories, indeed. I’m not waxing nostalgic, now, but still, I have respect for his and his team’s work.

Just keep in mind, the very recent gains are likely due to people who saw the Gilder report buying in.

I bought some at the open today. A small amount. But one thing that is bugging me is that on their website there is no reference to any of the technical people they have (and the company, seems to have under a hundred employees). Or patents.

And the other thing I noticed is their recent acquisitions don’t have anything to do with blockchain–they don’t even seem like important acquisitions. Very minor.

Makes me very suspicious.

I’m only in it because of Gilder.

In his video that plugs his newest moonshot subscription, some companies that Gilder does mention are Brave, Bitmain, Blockstat, NEO, Cardano, EOS, IOTA, RaiBlocks, Jonetex and Rivetz. He mentions that these are private companies and that you need to get the inside–which means subscribing to Moonshots I’m assuming? What do subscribers think of it so far? Is it worth the cost? I research a lot into this type of tech (blockchain, etc.) so I’m interested in expanding my information sources.

I know the NEO, Cardano, EOS, IOTA, RaiBlocks and Rivetz can be purchased on crypto exchange like binance or hitBTC. hitBTC does not always provide sufficient volume depending on the token.

It’s been about 1-1/2 months since this thread started. I tried asking Travis for his input on these Gilder stocks (if not Gilder himself) under “Ask a Stupid Question” . By his response, I thought we’d get some input in a Friday file but I guess we’re on our own on this one.

Seems to me that CEVA and PI are the best of the bunch and doing reasonably well. Does anyone have a similar assessment?

It is imperative to remember that Gilder is looking at LONG potentials. Yeah, in short-term bursts, CEVA can provide nice OPTION opportunities… but, I am ignoring the short-term volatility because I have my eye on the future, years down the timeline. If Gilder’s assessment of these are long-term focused, then that’s what we bet on.

I’ve been tracking the stocks mentioned in this conversation (namely, the supposedly identified stocks from Gilder).

Here are charts ( http://nw7us.us/charts/ ) for 21-August-2019, and, a weekly-interval chart group made on 21-August-2019. The weekly interval shows some of these stocks have a lot of volatility, but that’s tracking with QQQ and SPY, loosely. The whole market is highly-variable.

I think that these stocks have promise, and I do have positions with each of these: ALLT MITK CEVA ATEN PI KEM IDEX

Here are the charts: http://nw7us.us/charts/

Thoughts?

, The long term, overall picture of Gilder’s stock teases as a group has changed (I think) with the announcement that centenarian KEMET is in the process of being acquired by Taiwanese company Yageo Corp for $27.20 per share. Chart-wise, the price spiked after the announcement (as is common with such cases) and is now just basing at the top. I’m wondering what you (and interested parties on this thread) intend to do with your current KEM position, considering that the stock has turned out to be the best-performing of Gilder’s picks.

Hi guys,
If you’ve invested in IDEX, here’s a snippet from one of George’s moonshot reports…

“During our live event you may have heard me mention a company
that I was very excited about — a $142 million public company
headquartered in New York City.

That company is Ideanomics (IDEX).

Ideanomics operates a consulting business that helps create
blockchain enabled financial services. The company has a lot of
exciting projects, but the most interesting is its Fintech Village.

The village is expected to be constructed in an area formerly
used as part of the UConn campus. This Fintech Village is intended to be a “go-to-market hub” for startup companies focused on
blockchain and AI applications.

In our initial review, we liked the idea of what they are trying to do.
That’s why it was the focus of my event. Its unique connection to
the Cryptocosm was too exciting to ignore.

The thing is, after taking a closer look at their financial situation
— and talking with their investor relations team — we ultimately
decided that the company is simply too risky to recommend at
this time.

Why?

They’ve had some tense negotiations about the future of the
Fintech Village, and some uncertainty over how they can actually
pay for building it.

Ultimately, we couldn’t determine exactly what their plan was for
the Fintech Village. There are also some doubts about whether
they can even pay for it. So we want to wait for more clarity.”

I just ran into a PDF of Gilder’s Moonshot report where he names stocks; found it on Amazon AWS. . As for IDEX, he says it’s “on his watchlist.” And as RubyRed has just reported, Gilder is no longer interested in it; and I the quote he pulled and posted is also found in this report.

Get the report while you can, don’t know how long it will be here:

https://s3.amazonaws.com/gilderpress-uploads/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/01155044/GGM_WealthFromThe.pdf

I don’t know the date of this, maybe someone can tell us if it’s recent.

His picks for the six Moonshots listed in the report:

Impinj (NASDAQ: PI)
Mitek Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MITK
A10 Networks, Inc. (NYSE: ATEN)
EVA, Inc. (NASDAQ: CEVA
KEMET Corporation (NYSE: KEM)
Allot Ltd. (TLV: ALLT)

I was wondering the same – i.e. what does MAIN have to do with Gilder’s “Cryptocosm”? Based on comments on this thread plus abbreviated company descriptions of IDEX and MAIN, do you agree with the following deduction? :

1) IDEX, exercising its capacity as a financial technology company, plans to build a center for Technology and Innovation called Fintech Village. This gets Gilder so excited, he names IDEX as his moonshot pick.

2) Gilder then backpedals on his recommendation due to doubts on whether IDEX can pay for building the Fintech Village site. He is waiting for results of negotiations.

3) Enter MAIN, a financial investment firm focused on debt and equity financing or debt capital.

4) Gilder recommends MAIN in the first issue of The Gilder Report.

On a personal note, this is why I enjoy (and am grateful for) reading shared comments in Gumshoe-land. I get to add 1+1 on my own without forking $thousands to newsletters.

Since Gilder’s track record in the 90’s was golden until it all crashed and burned. It seems his regret was not to tell all his followers that it was crashing and burning. The thing that bothers me on this one is that he would recommend the stock without scrubbing the financials in the first place…. Is he really running this show, or is he a poster child for the increasing # of pundits trying to capitalize on prospective investor’s dreams of big gains. (the next amazon, the next ms, the next google, ….)

If you mean the little images that accompany your comments, those pictures for user profiles on Stock Gumshoe are mostly fed by Gravatar, we don’t actually host or set them on our site. Anyone can set their own image by quickly setting up a free account a https://en.gravatar.com/ using the same email address as we have in our records, and it will automatically follow you around the web to any other sites that use Gravatar (which is a lot of them). Hope that helps!

I agree; what little experience that I have dealt with, makes me think that the Gilder Press is being run by a fly by night, get rich quick, kind of infomercial; lots of click bait etc. Even the big debut interview of Gilder by Doug Hill was a pure insult on intelligence. Charts galore on the run up on some of Gilders recs in the past (of course not showing the rest of the chart, many of which went to zero), brown-nose accolades like he invented the iphone etc. I agree Gilder is highly intelligent and has a grasp on technology and possibilities in the future. But I think Gilder is currently in the wrong company as a forum for his ideas.
