written by reader How to weather crashes and safely grow small savings

I really enjoy reading your articles & discussions. But I am puzzled, what happens when the market ”crashes” & a reader is not nimble enough to get out? Has it not been getting lower & lower & as it jumps up & down? Is it that experienced investors with large portfolios can handle the losses (neither describes me so just would like to know in case I will be able to invest)?
I know you can’t give personalized advice, yet struggling with some physical & cognitive difficulties, being over 65 & not having near enough to retire on ($2/day + Social Security[1] after paying for a postgraduate education & working extremely hard most of my life(ignorant of investing), living with very low energy & multiple obstacles, losing money in ”life as it can unexpectedly happen” makes me want to find some lower risk way to have my tiny amount of money from ’way back when’ grow, instead of being swallowed up & decreased by necessary living expenses. Yes, that’s probably what most people want, regardless of how much they have. If I could, I would work & set aside a part to invest, no longer an option. Any readers with ideas as to what might be done? Major problem with energy, ability to concentrate, sometimes better, but no consistency & no cure.

Hi Anonymous, people like you are so refreshing to me. Your transparency is something to be admired and it humbles me. You are right, giving investment advise is not something any of us can do, and only you know what you feel comfortable investing as far as a dollar amount. There are many misleading stories of riches with small investments but it has happened. My favorite investment in my portfolio is SPOXF. I added it to my portfolio because I feel if the market falls apart it will be a saving grace for me for a lot of reasons. Someone that you trust could help you set up a small trading account….So to answer your question…something can always be done…you don’t need a lot of energy to make a small trade. Please stay positive and don’t watch too much news. You will be in my prayers.
