Hello Gumshoe Team!
In a few hours of annoying research, I believe I was able to figure out what Matthew Carr is teasing in his “VIPER Alert” Newsletter. He believes in a 41-fold gain, setting an Oxford Club record. He starts with his usual flexes of how good these scores are at predicting the stocks activity. He uses his “V-Score” to figure out which stocks are hot and which ones aren’t. Stocks with a V-Score under 70 aren’t worthwhile, one between 70-80 are excellent, 80-90 is outstanding, and 90+ is worth more than gold. The stock mentioned has a score of 98.89.
What he gives us to is “The company in my crosshairs is a wildly successfully insurance company with a $697 Million market cap.” It isn’t a whole lot to go off of, but, using GuruFocus, and some of his VIPER criteria, I was able to find out which stock he is teasing. The stock he is teasing is Trustco Group Holdings (Ticker OTC:TCHSY and NASDAQ:TRST). After doing some math for the market cap, the shares on the OTC market are trading for $60 so the would have to go to nearly $2500, although the NASDAQ listing would put the pricing as of September 2016, or when the market cap would match the price. The price then was around $7.20. It now trades for $8.20 or, not a 41-fold gain. For a 41-fold gain the price would have to $287.
Thanks!
