Dear fellow Gumshoe devotees, I’m fairly new at trading on my own, especially options[1]. I used to have a broker at one of the big firms. It didn’t go well. I’ve been checking out the infinite number of “programs” offered. I’d really appreciate your input on anyone that is worthwhile to help me succeed while I find my footing. Trade of the day War Room “Overnight Trades” (This guy has a very good “shtick” ) Wendy Kirkland (trading the QQQs), Chuck Hughes, Oxford Club[2]’s offering (“Swing Trading” w/Nicholas Vardy[3], Altucher’s “Secret Trade” service and many more. None of these services are cheap. If anyone would care to weigh in (or suggest one that has helped you learn and profit) I would be forever grateful. Sandy, new Irregulars member. Thank you.

How much are you willing to spend? I’ve never had any of the above services that you’ve mentioned, but I’ve seen their ad campaign’s in passing and they all seemed super shady and spammy (Accidentally signed up on an email list for Chuck Hughes, and now severely regret it as I get TONS of spam emails from other third parties about retirement services), Altucher and Oxford club seem a bit scammy too.

I do have Total Portfolio with Stansberry Research and fully enjoy it (You can access the more basic level Capital/Defensive portfolio for $3,000 for lifetime and get most of the main research). Also have Empire Financial Partnership and InvestorPlace’ Growth Investor, Investment Opportunities, and Early Stage Investor.

Of the 3 that I have, Stansberry Capital portfolio is probably the best value for the level of access that you get, is easy to read and follow and has the least amount of active portfolio maintenance involved. Great for newer investors, includes some options trading services, but nothing too advanced.

I naively plunked down hard-earned money on Oxford and other companies claiming they know the latest and greatest stocks to trade, or they have the inside scoop on the dark pool etc. I have yet to have made enough to even get my membership fees back. One claimed that they trade the VXX with perfection…every week I get a ‘no new action’ notification and the few times they did send an action…the VXX went the opposite direction and I got stopped out.

I’ve learned that there is NO ONE that can predict the direction of any stock with absolute accuracy except for perhaps Goldman Sachs or other institutions that know how to manipulate the market. If you decide to get into the trading world, then be prepared for a lot of scammers and make sure you look at gumshoe to vet any offer that seems too good to be true.
